How so? Being able to charge a device while also being able to output video is a good feature
-
I like USB C can be plugged either side up and isn't fragile (unlike micro-usb b)
-
I was really pleased to find out that most decent laptops, although they only have one HDMI port, will also output perfectly via a USB C to HDMI cable to give a three-screen extended desktop. Three screens makes life easy.

USB learned nothing from SCSI...
USB C connector standard is okay ish, but the protocol mess and protocol complexity plus the version chaos...
Ugggggh.
Same as the proprietary mess SCSI was.
Just worse. -
Sorry, USB-C is s step in the right direction. Finally non Apple world came into terms for a useful thing.
Btw, did you know that despite having its own connector type. Apple is the major contributor to USB C implementation? -
I don't like Apple Products BUTT their Lightning Connector is better. It doesn't break easily and the port is so fucking easy to clean
Functionalitywise Usb C is superior but Lightning is User friendlier -
@jackpearce i never once had a usb-c plug break, OR a port getting dirty enough so i have to clean it - what are you doing with your devices?
-
@tosensei
Well it never broke for me but the little piece in the middle is something that could break making the port unusable
I always need to clean my port because fabric and fluff gets in there -
@tosensei yeah "could" BUTT when you try cleaning your usb c port it makes it harder to get the gunk out
I can't be the only one has to clean his usb c port -
@tosensei
Not really. USB - C is a very fickle thing.
It depends mostly on how "nice" you are to your equipment.
E.g. I use extension cables which are always plugged in... So I can only damage the port of the extension cable, not the port of the mobo / laptop itself.
Biggest problem are usually laptops. As the chassis is the only protection... If someone wears the laptop with them inside a bag, it can easily happen that the USB - C port gets blocked by dust.
Last but not least, how frequently the port is used.
E.g. some designers at work need to swap multiple times per hour, the USB ports look after a week like someone tried to flex them off... XD -
@IntrusionCM yeah well, with the tear you are describing, C might look "flexed off", but micro will look "nuked" ;)
micro is clearly superior to mini, but i had _multiple_ micro-plugs and ports break by a multitude of reasons, but so far not a single C-device (except for massive traumatic impact)
the only thing missing IMHO is a standardised, not-retarded way to lock the connector in place, which can be beneficial in some situations. -
Micro USB was bad because of the hook thingies which tended to break, it was especially bad with video game controllers, I'd use my Xbox One controller with a wired connection to my PC and the cable would either randomly fall off (broken connection hooks) or just disconnect briefly enough to leave my game character walking in circles because the right stick input wouldn't change and the third person camera would spin like crazy, I had to play games without moving my controller, then I just bought rechargeable batteries to play wirelessly because it was so bad
USB-C doesn't have breaking hooks, will still connect if you flip it, fits snugly, *and* I can have network cable, keyboard, mouse, power, and a monitor all hooked up to the same port on my computer (which isn't a MacBook lmao)
Micro USB was way more decent than USB-C. USB-C connects less good
