Back in ninth grade.
Ouch..
(But I made a pretty decent game with it xD)

    Had to deal with that in CS50.

    The most infuriating part about Scratch was the fact that you couldn't see / know what certain Commands did underneath the hood like "Disappear" or "Reappear". And it's kind of weird how the code is directly attached to the sprites on the "Stage" or the "Stage" itself..

    I'm not actually downvoting you because I'm not cruel, but I'm virtually downvoting you. Scratch is awesome. I don't know what criteria you're using to call it the worst ever of anything.

    For getting kids and absolute beginners to understand the fundamentals of programming structure (conditions, loops, variables, animation, algorithms, ordering), it is amazing.

    Scratch is an awesome tool for educating anyone on programming and I have not found any other better alternative to it. #hourofcode

    @agentQ Why not teach a popular lang instead like java
  • 4
    @owlsurf because kids can't type as fast to build a program with BGM, sound FX, interactions, animation and upload their creations in 2 hours like Scratch does.

    @owlsurf
    @agentQ is right, Scratch is easy for your first logical algorithm/game programming - it's simple and WYSIWYG. For kids.
    I myself could've dispensed with it...

    @CrankyOldDev Well the design of it is slightly better than Facebook

    @owlsurf If I can butt in, because then people learn a syntax, they don't learn how to program. When you're so caught up in getting spelling and word order and punctuation, you're not learning the right foundations. With those, you can move from one syntax to another without needing to completely retrain.

    Dude, I fuckin love scratch

    Without Scratch, I wouldn't be interested by programming, so I wouldn't go to learn development on app Inventor, so I wouldn't learn Java (😔), so I wouldn't discover devRant, so SCRATCH IS THE BEST THING EVER.

    The function name. Are. Abysmal.

    @g-m-f
    You might be right and scratch isn't that bad - but I myself didn't like it, ofc for kids this is great but not in ninth grade ^^

    @BambuSource When we are young, scratch and then app Inventor are great tools to learn the basics

    @BambuSource I'm not familiar with "grades" in education... what age is 9th grade?

    When adults try to ride a bicycle meant for kids , they get hurt more often than not . Try giving a highend bike to a 5 year old , you know what kids bicycle are meant for !!
