I'm the git master in my group for a uni project as I am the only one with some experience.
This is what I have to deal with21 -
F*CKING DESIGNERS.
Stop sending me your freaking PNG. Don't even dare to FREAKIN' make me use Chrome DevTools to get your FREAKIN' color our of your FREAKIN' PNG.
Give me all your colors in FREAKIN' hex, rgba, or whatever you want.
Give me all the fonts you used.
Give me all the sizes, is it percentage-based? Pixels based? Donuts-based?
I don't give a damn that you think you went responsive-first. Show me the damn responsive mockups. Not just the desktop sized with a note: "Don't worry mate, I made so that it all goes well when responsive".
Oh god. Oh god.
I'm not an artist, I give zero shit about how great it looks.
I'm a programming poet, I want to write code without having to open (or download it first through torrent) the damn photoshop, sketch, or whatever you use.
They take freakin' months to dump a mockup and we have days to make it happen. The pain.
The pain is strong with those damn designers.

I hate everybody who says JavaScript is the best language because of loose typing and its easy to learn, YES OF COURSE IT IS EASY!
ITS FUCKING JAVASCRIPT! IT WAS MEANT TO BE EASY! AND THEN SOME ASSHOLE CAME ALONG, CREATED NODE AND THOUGHT THAT IT WAS A GOOD IDEA!
NOW WE HAVE TO DEAL WITH THIS SHIT EVERYWHERE BECAUSE PEOPLE WHO WROTE CODE FOR UX NOW THINK THEY KNOW WHAT NEEDS TO HAPPEN ON THE SERVERSIDE!!
GOD FUCKING DAMNIT I HATE THIS ANALTOY OF A LANGUAGE.
YOU THINK JAVASCRIPT IS THE BEST?! DO YOU REALLY??!!! OH YEAH!?!

AND THEN TELL ME AGAIN JAVASCRIPT IS A WELL DESIGNED AND PROPER LANGUAGE!!

It's finished.
After switching between Fedora, Ubuntu, Debian, Manjaro, Antergos and a dozen WM's I've settled for Arch on the desktop.
Took me over a week of trial and error, but it's worth the pain for the level of control you get.
Switching to Linux reminded me much of trying to find out if I liked text editors or IDE's more when I first started programming. I changed tools every day before I settled.
Screenshots of course. Now to actually get back to my JDBC projects before I start obsessing over how to get all my apps on the terminal. :D12 -

Me: Hi Guys, theres no docs on our custom push notification / deeplinking implementation. I've tried to work backwards from a QA testing doc to add new links. Can someone tell me if this is all ok? It seems to behave a little weird.
Dev: Looks ok, but we've moved to the braze platform for sending notifications. You'll need to trigger braze notifications now. Test that it works ok with that <confluence-link>
*hour later*
Me: I've tried the debugging tool, both with my payload and one of the samples from the link. It displays on the phone, but tapping it doesn't trigger the deeplinking.
Dev: No it works, try one of these <screenshot of samples I used>
*hour later*
Me: Tried it again on the real device to make sure, as well as on develop and master. Not working with those samples or mine.
Dev: No it does. It comes in here in this library <github link to line of code>
Me: ... Nope, debugged it, it doesn't get passed the next 'if' check on the next line as its missing a key/value. The whole function does nothing.
Dev: Oh do you want to send a braze notification?
Me: ..... you told me I had too .... yes I guess.
Dev: ok for a braze notification it works different, send this <entirely different sample no where on the link>
Me: ...... but ..... this is only for braze notifications ..... why .... all the samples have deeplink url's .... but they don't ....... are you ..... FFS!!!!! !@#?!

Those developers working under non-technical bosses, i understand your pain.
1. Pain when they don't realise that output != number of hours put in. Aaaaaaand that acting busy doesn't mean someone's working.
2. Pain when chilling out in office is necessary, because mind jobs don't work same as other jobs. Wherein if you don't vent it out you're gonna screw up the code. Them not getting that.
3. Pain of "meetings".
4. Pain of changing the feature when you're done, and them acting as if its a minor change.
5. Pain of vague requirements.
6. Pain of a product not thought through, and them trying to blame the implementation.rant developers life office pain office politics office life developerslife non tech people programmer life non techie5 -

"For those that don't know: Alpine Linux is a security-oriented, lightweight Linux distribution based on musl libc and busy box. The latest version of Alpine Linux v3.3 weighs in at a whopping 5MB. Not bad for a full blown Linux OS considering 5MB is same size as the Windows Start button."

To anyone suffering from chronic pain, especially lower back pain: Don't get fooled by shitty doctors. And don't expect doctors to magically heal you. If you want to stop your suffering, you need to be proactive.
What? But my herniated disc from 10 years ago... bla bla bla. So what? It's not going to get better when your only exercise is putting on your socks. Chances are 99% that your spine has shit to do with your pain. Go to a proper chronic pain therapy instead of downing opiods and getting sick notes.

Apple iPhone testing without being on the app store is so annoying, I had to sign up some people to test the app I've been working on and had issues on my end, it really is this whole security bullshit, really it isn't needed.
I couldn't get the team provisional certificate thing to show up because when I clicked the account the team certificate settings would disappear, only after right clicking and hitting help then clicking the team while it was selected could I go to the right window.
I don't see why it's so damn hard to do this crap.
Yet with Android, it's so easy.
I really have issues with the testing for this iPhone app, I went through so many different ways to try and get it to work.
Anyways all done, crashlytics is an awesome testing tool if you can get around that small issue I had.4 -

Back then, whatever finished tasks I have done, our CTO always contradicts my idea and finds a way to humiliate me. I don't get the point why he did that. Probably, he didn't want me to excel at something or he really does have crab mentality. I already reported this issue to our CEO because I was being harassed and submitted my resignation letter.
And boom! Guess what? It looks like our CTO just stepped a chicken manure and treats me nicely like a princess.
P.S. To be honest, it took him like a couple of months to step down and act normal like nothing happened. Really appreaciated the A-ffort, though!10 -

We have a 15-machine cluster that went down last night because one machine in the cluster went down. Apparently having a cluster for redundancy is just a nice idea and doesnt actually work in practice.
Also I shouldnt have to go to a vendor's forums to find out the bug that is causing my cluster to go down is fixed in a future version. It should be in the goddamn patch notes!!! -
A word of advice to framework authors:
If I am currently using v2.5.5 of a library, and I update to 2.8.6, I would expect to maybe have to update a few deprecated method calls here and there.
I do not expect the entire API to be completely different, with half the classes totally renamed and restructured. Breaking changes should go into a new major version plz4 -
Who the fuck uses http code 200 for a failure. Seriously have you ever heard something about a need to parse the shit you're returning...
Now I don't know whether it's me who's wrong, but man there are more than 80 different codes defined so there really should be something for you, don't you think?
And don't give me shit like "well the request worked so we return 200 it's only that the request wasn't correct". What for a fucking peace of something are you... Those codes are for that exact reason.
Anyways I'm going to parse the shit with string compare and afterwards kill myself out of shame. Whish me luck...6 -
Porting 8.1 to old device is really pain but thats nothing compared to whats to come.
Google annouced Project Treble and it does that vendor shit is on partition and init files are edited to make them load. Then you can run GSI (Generic System Image). When it was released all developers said that its impossible to bring support for it unofficialy. Then some guys on XDA ported it to Xiaomi phone. Great they proved almost entire XDA wrong. Great. Then few phones did the same. Amazing. Now almost any phone with good dev can be trebelized. Great. Well the device needs 400MB+ partition that is unused so that we can add vendor files there. Well its issue on my phone since i dont have that big unused partition. FUCK. Well i have 11.1GB Virtual SDcard partition. Hmmmm maybe i can resize that partition and create new partition of size 500MB to make it as vendor. OK great. Once thats solved then just copy them and done. WRONGGGGGGGGGGGGG. Its not that easy. First you need to make a script that places all device releated shit into vendor. OK thats easy. Then comes the hard part. Those vendor files have no fucking clue they are in not in system folder. So they start loading shit and ofcourse they will fail if they are not in system. Well most users think we are done thats its over. Its not. HEX editing comes to the rescue. You edit every single blob to make it compatible with vendor partition. OK after that hell pain you are almost done. Just edit init files and try GSI. It will probably fail to boot. Now you search logs for missing crap and slowly add that until it boots.
So this is ahead of me since i dont have 8.1 support yet. But once its done then im coming for you treble. Ohhhhhh how cool would it be to run android P on Xperia P ?
Sure you can skip treble porting but its better if you do it since it makes porting new android version soooooooo much easier.11 -

This is a short tale that can be summed up as "oh fuck meee".
After finishing an API the night before I settled in for a day of bug fixes and tidy ups. Until slack went off.
The front end dev was getting an error, a code breaking error. After doing the standard process of request checking i went okay must be me. I find the script that is has the error and the line that it is failing at.
Que 2 hours of the full cycle of anger, sadness, pleading, and finally acepting that it had finally happened I had gone insane. The code was to documentation best practise correct and it still had the same error.
I the cheaked the DB on a whim and I found that my code was not wrong and it was doing exactly what I wanted the data however had a single record that was old and the schema had change juuussstt enoigh to break everything at that record. One 3 secound deletion later code ran perfectly.2 -
So I have to fix this motherfucking insane regex with over 1k chars in it ...
This fucking shit is not maintainable and there are no comments or any other sort of documentation.
And this bullshit was not build via code so that bastard wasted weeks of time to develop that shitty expression by hand on a online regex tester website.
So I have 3 options:
1. Reverse engineer everything and waste my precious time
2. Delete that shit, analyze the input and write the regex via code instead of creating it by hand
3. Look for that "super duper clever" dev and break his legs.
I think option 3 suits me best.
And for you dear reader, if you are regexphile, enjoy this gigantc regex with >16k chars:

I wanna make you feel what you have brought into my house!!
I was working with security cameras once in a home automation project. One of those camera particularly stand out by offering a cgi without password request to view and change the current passwort and username.
Seriously wtf is wrong with you? I mean this thing automatically connects to an internet service offering everyone to connect to it with that passwort and username. And I know some of you might say "hey chill the cgi is only available on the wifi" - dammit no. Security is a lifestyle do it complete or get the fuck out. God knows what other mistakes there might be hidden in that thing screaming out to everyone to watch me taking a shit.
But that's not the end of it. My company arranged a call to the technical support of that camera so that I can explain the problem and a patch gets released. Those guys didn't give a shit about it and were even laughing at me. Fuck you!
So whoever is responsible - I will find you - and you will never see me coming.4 -
Okay, so I have to write a script that will get user data from an AD, additional information from an XML, combine those two to get boss user relationship and output that mess into an excel sheet.
Oh, and both sources are ofc completely inconsistent. So I need full error handling on everything.
Aaaaaaand I have to write it in VB script... Using np++... Without plugins...
I hate my life!8 -
Have anyone felt this before?
You Google loads of different tutorial on something, find one most recent tutorial... Do it and when compile, a lot of error pops out. Go to the github code page and realise the author did not include the line that was required to run smoothly in the tutorial page/video?13 -

Inspiration to code kicks in!
Kids asleep, everybody’s asleep, house is quiet. The kind of peace ive always wanted and wished! (Parents here will understand.)
Get to my laptop, opened up code editor, start fresh and clean! Created new file, about to type my first code and.........blood dripping from my nose. It doesn’t stop there, its like flowing for a while!
I noticed it keeps flowing while im projecting the inner excitement to code. When my mind drifted a bit, the nose bleeding stops. Wth? Its like my body is ejaculating when im excited to code, yeah.. it ls blood shot out of my nose, wtf!
...and i have to stop what im doing. Then the ideas just spoofly gone. Suddenly i dont know why im staring at an empty code editor.. (what was im about to code again?) i totally cant recall, it simply gone. Damn it. That could be a million dollar apps! Wish i can go back to an hour ago and record myself when i received that historic inspirational moment. 😔9 -

Shit, again a long rant...
It all started 9 months ago.
We had a meeting with our group staff (5 people). Back the we discussed, if we should only work online or still send files around with mail.
Sure I suggested to run everything on a root server, would be the best performance/cost choice.
The president and the accounted refused, they said it's still working, why change. Payment will only be trough banktransfer and everybody keeps files local.
Back then I told them, that they will have sooner or later a problem. Files will be missing and bills not payd.
Last week we had a new meeting:
- Some of the group missed files.
- Some bills were unpaid
So now I have time until march to find and finish a groupware/collaboration tool.
I need to run member administration and payment online, this should be finished in October 2018. It should also do accounting.
Im really planing to use WooCommerce for this, I'm really crazy, I know! But I dont have time for that shit!
I work fulltime beside this and almost have no time to code something like that.
Well this week I demanded a memberlist, so I can plan a CRM database.
I received a word file as memberlist.
I asked them if this is a joke, right?!
They said no, thats the list. All the Data was mixed and some user details missing.
I HAD 3 HOURS TO GET IT DOWN IN EXCEL. WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS??? I REALLY WANNA PUNCH YOU ALL IN YOUR FACE!
When I sended it, I didn't receive a response or thanks.
The joke, I'm doing this stuff for free. I volontered, to make something big...
Im really going to shit Lego Bricks next... -

It seems like I'm going on an assignment to a company working with Angular. Reading through the documentation I just want to ask all Java developers to get their greasy hands out of JavaScript. It feels like GWT all over again with Google reinventing core JS technologies just so that it looks like Java. Dependency injections? Observable wrappers? RxJS in general? WHAT IS THE POINT? Why can't I do this in a way adhering to web standards? Why can't I simply use fetch() or axios or whatever? Why can't you support reactivity without forcing me to write more boilerplate than I had on my central heating boiler? I just want to code and not be forced to discover what Google developers think web should be like.
Please, let me out of this hell.
Fortunately, it's not gonna be a long assignment.3 -

Optimizing JS is such a pain. like, the total runtime of the rest of the code is not measurable compared to DOM operations, so the goal would be to optimize DOM access, but there are zero resources online on the relative cost of certain operations, and I get the feeling that they don't have much in common across browsers.2

If I eat whatever the fuck is wrong with my jaw (cracked tooth or cavity) starts throbbing from the chewing action, in addition to coming on for no reason at all. vision-blurred-waves-of-nausea levels of pain. Enough that I'm alternating between laughter and almost tears.
I've downed four aspirin and it's still just barely enough WITH the numbing gel.
Got lock jaw something aweful.
Barely convinced a dentists office, which is supposed to be closed (and cancelled all it's appointments due to corona), to come in during quarantine. But thats monday. Dont kno how I'll make it. They do payment plans but I'm flat broke because I decided to pursue programming right when all this fucking bullshit went down.
And all I can think of while im typing this is the pain.
And fuck me I cant do weed because my backup plan if I fail at coding is the military.
And this stray dog that the neighbors 'adopted' but leave outside WONT STOP FUCKING BARKING.
Fuck me. Just kill me now. Do it.
Gonna go watch comedy because I read a research paper that says genuine laughter raises pain threshold by up to 10%.13 -
!rant (okay somewhat it *is* a rant, idk)
So I recently got into using react-native to make an android application, with another partner of mine.
I use a Mac while my partner uses Windows
Now since I was the one who suggested to use react-native, I started the project on my system, set it up (took some efforts though), and put the code on a git repo.
My partner cloned the repo, and it stopped working. Bummer.
The exact same code worked perfectly well on my system, but didn't work on his windows.
When he made a new project on his system, it didn't work on my system.
The error that kept occurring was EISDIR on both our systems.
Is react-native not meant to work for development on different platforms or is windows just a bitch as usual? -
Hey guys, I've always loved and adored what programmers and developers do, so I really do need your advice on this...
After around nine years in the journalism field, I'm considering a career shift into development, for many reasons including that the journalism field seems to be going down in my country, so I started where most recommendations would tell a beginner to start, learning HTML... Now, is it a good idea for starters to change my career into this magnificent and enormous field? I know it won't be easy, but is it possible to be something in that career?6 -
1. Sets up Airbnb listing for Mom
2. Domain check
3. Email check
4. Okay let’s setup a simple one-pager that we can share
*Uses html5 broilerplate and embeds Airbnb listing - simple*
Checks page, it comes up blank...
WTF!!!??? WHY!? *Checks Console: 1 million errors screaming about Content Security Policy*
Sigh, I can deal with logic errors in backend code. WebDev is just so full of esoterics and gotchas that have nothing to do with you business logic. They make really simple and trivial shit way more painful and harder than they need to be... Ugh3 -
I've been creating my Typescript/C# projects using SOLID principles. Whenever someone randomly joins me in my projects at work, i feel they need a lot of help. Specially since they know programming, but are not familiar with SOLID.
Like ohhh ok you created a base class for that, or ohhh that method already exists in the base class sorry i've implemented it again, or ohhhh ok you already implemented this method in that class.
The more classes i create the more complicated it becomes, sometimes for me too!
I feel I have to write a documentation for the code I write just to keep up with the different, but code changes/augments so writing a doc is really time consuming.
However if i didnt create base classes or interfaces it would be less complicated to browse through method definitions.
I am happy with the code like that though, but in some specific times it's a pain in the ass.

++ if you've ever had to type something along these lines:
def main(args):
do = some
stuff = here
if __name__ == '__main__':
main()
trying to figure out the best way to write a driver script for a processing pipeline and the choices have boiled down to;
a) define "new" main functions where necessary
b) learn subprocess module
c) write a bash script to do it instead
still not sure what I'm going with... -
I did my biggest mistake of my coding life today (I've been coding for two months).
I did a program in my coding class. I said to myself : "I will try when it will be done". After 3 hours of coding, I finished the code. I tried it and... almost all of my script was trash. Best feeling ever.2 -

Why is it such a hassle to get Android Studio to work? Spending several hours filled with with installs, reinstalls, downloads, googling, troubleshooting, more failures, suicidal thoughts, env variable tinkering, crashes, total apathy - before I can finally start writing some fucking code is fucked up.1

Does anyone have lower back pain after coding for a few hours? How did you fix it? What chair do you have? It's it a posture problem?8

So i decided to hit the gym last night because why not? Now i haven't gone to a gym in a long time, so my stupid self thought why not lift some weights, and rather than starting with something light and gradually increasing the weight i went for the heaviest dumbbells, guess who's lying in the bed now, not even able to lift his hands to code? This fucking sucks i can't even lift a damn spoon without having cramps, i tried rubbing some massage gel but it doesn't seem to do any difference, do you guys have any advice? Thanks :)2

A normal day on my CMS as a Service...
URL: https://go to CMS
> Login screen: enter credentials, check checbox "remember me" (which doesn't remember you)
> redirected to SSO (single sign-on welcome page)
> Re-enter URL to go to CMS
> Fires up second browser on second screen, do the exact same things as above
--- Code editing
As it's a very modern CMS, you have to edit the code via the CMS using a bulky and honestly shitty editor (or rather: they didn't spend time configuring it to be at least semi-decent).
Plus default white horrible theme.
> Go to "/themes"
> Scroll all the way down the page
> Enter filename in search box
> Click the "Edit" button, which is a small button located right next to a much bigger red "DELETE" button. When you middle click (as I always open files in new tabs) on the DELETE button, it DELETES without confirmation. In such cases, you lose up to three days of work asking the providers to set it back up for you via their backup - and charge you for that. So sorry for deleting an *important* file
> Edit the file.
> Save the file - it takes 3 seconds. Upon saving, rescroll again to where you were in the code.
> On the other screen, refresh dev view of current template
> Wait 5 seconds
> If there are any special blocks, they all load via a semi-synchronous AJAX request (it's async, but they load one by one), the same time you waited to refresh your page.
> Notice you forgot adding some markup
> Re-edit the file, save...
> OH NO - I'VE BEEN BACKGROUNDEDLY DISCONNECTED. Back to Login page.
> Enter credentials.
> Am not on the CMS, but on the SSO
> Navigate back to file
> Re-write new changes
--- Manager comes in:
I need to you edit XXX objects in DB Manager (a big PHPMyAdmin if you will)
> New tab, go to https://DB
> Although still connected on CMS, I have to re-enter credentials
> Am redirected to SSO
> Re-enter https://DB
> Find the object (20 seconds of loading)
> Find the appropriate field
> Find out the field is in fact another object located elsewhere
> Uff, thank goodness, there's a shortcut button to directly edit said elsewhere object
> Operates on elsewhere object + save
> Re-edits original object + save
> ERROR 500, APPLICATION UNEXPECTEDLY CRASHED
:') painful much?
(for those who ask: yes i've got plenty of mind-reflexes in order to minimise losses)2 -
How do I make an ER diagram ?
I tried doing it in PowerPoint but it's too large to fit on one slide.
Online tools are no help. (At least the ones I tried)
It's such a pain.8 -
So, I decided over the weekend that I would move my entire dev environment to Linux. No Windows on the laptop and only as a backup boot system for my home PC. I wanted to wean myself off of Linux as only being a VM and move to the full blown desktop.
I can only describe my experience to that of having your first kid: lot's of crying and joy at the same time.
Things I've learned:
1. The install is amazingly painless. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth work straight out of the box no configuring needed.
2. OH MY GOD THE CUSTOMIZATION. Rocking Arc Dark theme on Gnome3 = EVERYTHING IS
ALWAYS DARK MICROSOFT WHY IS THIS NOT A THING.
3. Getting Java servlets to work has been hell. I gave up trying to get them to work in eclipse and moved over to IntelliJ. More trial and error before I can figure out why tomcat won't fucking work in eclipse but it's fine in IntelliJ.
4. The UI and overall work flow has been improved after getting past the learning curve. Gnome3 is way better from when I tried it out 4 years ago.
5. Vim has a steep learning curve but I am starting to understand the net benefits of it. It'll probably be a solid month before I get good with it.
6. Loosing Microsoft Office has been a little bit of a challenge but their suite is online so....meh. I do miss Visual Studio though, and am still looking for an adequate replacement for C++ and C# development.
Overall it's been a challenge but I think it's been a net gain. Now if only I could get the whole sys-admin team to use it. ;)12 -
Copy-paste elbow.
This is what I'm calling spending a few hours scrolling up and down and pressing the same keys hundreds or thousands of times, because, apparently single quotes look neater than double quotes.
Now you're in pain for the rest of the day and painkillers don't help at all.
Go to hell copy-paste elbow. Now.3 -

Pain. I haven't really gotten anything done this year, at least not how I would want it. The future is not looking very bright either as far as I can see. -
So this past week I was supposed to start on a new feature on our companies product. Started the week off with a kidney stone and the rest of the week on pain meds. Too fucked to actually get anything done. RIP. Hope they aren't too mad.3

I have not been able to work for quite some time already due to a chronic condition getting worse. Even when I have been at work I wouldn't get anything done due to chronic pain (a literal pain in the ass), so this year hasn't been very fun so far. I cannot sit nor stand for extended periods of time. I just want to be able to work again! :C8

In the past 3 months I worked on a new frontend project at work using "new things" like vue.js and webpack including Babel polyfills on production for the first time. Now the project is almost done an I've been sent on to other tasks on our older projects to help follow the deadline at these projects.
It is a hard cut to switch my head back to the old legacy code after this long time only working with the new stuff and technologies. I feel much less productive at the moment, because I know how much time I could safe if I just could use the new technologies. But there is now way around this. Finally I now have to maintain Symfony 1.2 and jQuery again instead of building new awesome stuff in this exiting new technologies.1 -
What are you doing today?
Oh just rererereinstalling windows. Not even a little upset. Not like I'm in the middle of a *swearword* boot camp. Not like I'm supposed to be coding a conservative 8-10 hours a day. Nbd. This is my favorite way to spend time.1 -
Software has no pre-built packages. Clones repo and tries to compile from source. Spends 1.5 hrs hunting for the libraries - no list published. Configure of course had trouble finding one I had installed; had to debug the configure file to see how it was search for it, turns out it was applying a subdirectory to whatever path I gave it. FINALLY configures and I run "make all". Everything compiles!!! Try to follow documtation to setup the software, 1st cli command -> Segmentation Fault with no logs....

So I'm currently working on a chat app that deals with astrology..dealing in the sense we are building an AI which gives prediction based on ones date of birth, time of birth and place of birth, you can ask it questions (currently only career related) and you get some prediction..it's an in-house project, we have a client who is an astrologer who gives us the logic to compute the predictions ..it's still a long way from being an AI ...so our CEO walks in one day with his huge plans for the product...decides to ditch the app completely, on which we have invested 4 months of our time and instead make an appointment scheduling webapp for our client as he felt that would fetch us some green stuff..so I was like why ditch the app when we can have the same module in the app itself and ask the astrologer to make his clients install if they want to book future appointments, he completely disregarded my idea and said that is bad marketing and all other shit and he went on to explain his other ideas ...I didn't think much of it at that time , then the CEO and the director of technology had a separate meeting where the director has made the same points which I had told him(ceo) that it is a bad idea to ditch the app (I wasn't aware of this meeting untill later)...so after a week we have a team meeting with the CEO, director of technology ...where he starts telling how it is not so wise to Chuck the existing application and build a new one which is totally unnecessary and we can have it as a module in the existing one...and I'm like sitting there thinking to myself da fck is he talking about...so i decided to stay silent and listen to his bs...my marketing lead leans over and ask y so silent ....I tell her whatever he is talking now is the same thing I told last week which he rejected blatantly... And then he had the nerve to ask me any inputs to this plan...I couldn't hold back ...I told him that this is the exact same thing I told u last week , to which his reply was focus on the future and forget the past ....I was like mother fckr woooooot ...I realised the power of position !! Fuckol man3

I'm not much of a front-end dev and tasked myself to make a site for the dev group I'm in. Figured that it doesn't need any big libraries since it's a simple one page.
Boy was I wrong. After about 3 to 4 hours of getting nowhere with css, switched to Bulma and in about half an hour, not only did it look decent but it was responsive and fast and clean.
Bless bulma and it's developers. Sure saved my ass3 -

Onboarding with a company I've worked for and realized that this entire enterprise is NOT remote friendly. If I didn't still have friends in the office, I'd be screwed...
Example 1: Day 3 I got my passwords. Go to access company email - need 2FA. Alright, go to request 2FA... oh, the link I need is behind their VPN. Which requires 2FA to access.
Example 2: Company laptop can't be logged in without domain access... need to be on (here it comes) the company VPN. I HAVE TO ACCESS THE VPN ON MY LAPTOP, THEN PATCH THE OTHER LAPTOP IN AND HOPE TO GOD I HAVEN'T VIOLATED A COMPANY POLICY, THEN SIGN IN ON THE COMPANY LAPTOP AND INSTALL THE VPN PROVIDED THAT (GOD WILLING) I HAVE ADMINISTRATIVE RIGHTS ON THE MACHINE (WHICH I ALMOST DEFINITELY DO NOT)!
This is why, when I was traveling for this company previously, I didn't bring the work laptop. By some divine providence I had decided to upgrade RAM in my personal device before I started.
I love working for these guys, and the team I'm doing work with is by far the best I've ever worked with. But god damn their ITSec pisses me off - these are the same guys who disabled RDP via Remote Desktop and TeamViewer(and apparently at the protocol level too), but leave Chrome Remote Desktop and SSH wide open. I don't get it!!!2 -
So worked myself into stupor for a react-native app(first -time). It is the client part for large system ecosystem. Was rough at first but after initail field test and refactor to the code base it is in 95% stable form. This all happend in 2 months. During this time co-workers build rest of system in node and other backend magic sauce 👩💻 .
My app has sibling app to collab with. I make a note (early in the development of this sibling app) that the ui is not working for the use case and get in a heated debate with co-workers. Concede 🙌 that it is not my part of the system and leave it to them, they blame the fact that no design was given. Fast forward to yesterday I get munched by client that wants to showcase the system to large company and has to struggle with sibling app. I tell him it is something "we" would look at in the next cycle ( covering for my coworkers) .
I feel shit and year now starts off with crappy feeling that all my hard work to get my app to decent version of itself is lost☠️ . -
There is nothing worse than trying to program while having RSI, it’s either you have your wrist support on and type slowly and hit multiple keys, or you have it off, type slowly and live with the pain3

No matter what right thing you did, what right cause you fought, in the end, you will always have to lose..you will always be the bad guy.

Wondering how would I finish the website in few hours with the shoulder pain 😥 No pain killer at home.3

Is it common to freak out frustrated to the core when you fuck up a project or dependency you've been working on for with full dedication, leading to question your decision of selecting the field, your achievements yet, the whole point of existence. Then suddenly fix it after two hours of pulling hair out and looking back feeling stupid?
This episode has repeated over and over recently. -

Really guys, are there any spryker developers here on devrant? How do you get over the constant desire to kill yourself to end the pain??2 -
The worse bugs ain't those that show up on your terminal<If you got those kinda bugs-you're lucky>. But are those that don't show up at your terminal, but still give you the worse version of production.

The all too common passwords stored in clear text. When brought up with the developer they couldn't see the problem.

What is your worst project you have worked on ?
Ans) my self, I have worked on CMS project called as Ellis pathway, which is my ever worst project I have worked on. It was developed on the language called omnimark, have you by any chance heard about it ?. Moreover it was used to process XML and the worst nightmare would when XML is 500mb and it is not valid after process. I have spent shit lot of hours fixing XML manually.. I literally fucked my self there. Thank God I somehow managed to quit and move on. -
I'm literally and truly done with Vagrant machines built using puphpet.com (Docker has since replaced Vagrant for me).
I just tried to spin up a project from about a year ago. The machine fails to work, spitting out loads of unhelpful Ruby related nonsense.
After an hour of buggering around and because I really need to get this update done I decided to try my luck and get scotchbox a go.
Within 10 minutes I had a working Vagrant machine and the said site up and running.
To me puphpet.com is like a single use Vagrant machine. It will work once but don;t expect me to work in a few weeks.
Machine built using puphpet.com can go to hell. So much time wasted.2 -

NCAA wrestling nationals is going off right now. Coding has many similarities with wrestling: hard work, determination, individual performance, team building / scoring. For some reason I feel like coding might be a more sustainable venture...
