    Couldn't care less*

How are you able to get work done with all of those Windows updates turning your computer off at the worst moments?

I'm mostly kidding, but have you ever even thought about trying Linux? Have you tried in the past?

I'm really curious to hear stories from people without the "autistic" screeching from either side. Software and computers are about choice, especially the Unix-like OSs (besides macOS), so having people say "You tried it wrong!!!1!" or "You're using the wrong one" is really hindering to the computing industry as a whole.

    @iSwimInTheC corrected. Thank you🤗🤗🤗

@RiderExMachina i can say I haven't. Honestly, after I tried Mac I went back to Windows and decided, nope. Not again.
  • 3
@ToonTheLoon you tried the only OS who is NOT Linux, FreeBSD is more Linux than MacOs!
And FreeBSD is not Linux too.

The World of the OS is so big

    @ToonTheLoon
Honestly Linux is so much better than MacOS. Just everything is laid out better. If you want a more Windows-y experience, try the Cinnamon desktop... but only if you want to. Like I said, the world of computers is all about choice!

    Good for you.

Tactful translation: to each their own.

@RiderExMachina I really don't get this update bullshit. Know your system and you'll know when it will restart.

Patches come every second Tuesday. If you can't keep your system up to date you're nothing better than any user who gets those viruses.

Also, you can postpone those restarts. It's very simple: Linux and macOS users love to cry how bad Windows is and expect new users who try their system of choice to spend time with it. If you use Windows you should do the same.

All systems have their issues. And as a developer: I cannot say that Unix (like) systems are any better for development. They're great, but not really better.

Linux gives you the best way of doing things, not just getting things done!

@ctwx A bit generalizing, aren't we? I don't work in Window$, only use it for gaming. I have almost nothing installed there (browsers, Steam, Blizzard App, few games), yet magnificent Windows managed to f*ck itself again - every time I try installing one specific update (few months old now), it fails - bunch of restarts, rollback and I am where I was. Windows are still nagging me about updates it fails to install. This exactly same error happened to me in previous Window$ installation. I am tired of that OS with its neverending brokenness and update spam.

Windows 10 pro! one dot motherfcker!

I use windows as it seems to just work out of the box, easy to provision and just wipe and continue work without any major configuration needed

@monnef no, it's just that I always read people crying about how Windows restarts their computer. If it does, you did something wrong, ignored every single notice and did not even spend a minute for the details of the system, like that there are updates every month which require a restart. It's that simple.

You're issue may be an issue of some bad combination. Happened to me too. Ask via forums, chat, or even Twitter.

What I am trying to say is that it is super easy to cry about Windows bit ignore all other issues with other systems. For example: last time I ran ArchLinux updates it literally destroyed the OS. Am I whining in every post? No, of course not.

@monnef btw your way of writing Windows or Microsoft with $ or whatever let's you look like a little child. We get it, you don't like them.

I use Windows most of the time cause it gets shit done and I've got everything I need in one place. I have another machine running Linux. It's also fun to use. These hyped kids are just tryna look cool.

We couldn't care less what you use to do whatever it is that you do. Sorry to burst your bubble but you're not as important as you might believe yourself to be.
  • 5
@ctwx Hey use whatever you want, let's start with that. Then, I just wanted to say that just because it works for you and is supposed to work well for anyone, doesn't mean that it does for anyone!
Have a friend who went for lunch break and locked his laptop with win7 first. Came back and windows 10 was about 50% installed. All files etc where gone. Everyone declared him crazy and said that windows wouldn't ever do such a thing but I was live there to witness it.
Next to that I know many people who have updates (automatic ones) explicitly disabled but their computers just keep on auto-updating which even has caused them loss of work.

    Just my 2 cent!

@ctwx As for your third paragraph, well sucks for you that you've had trouble with arch (no sarcasm)!
If you don't like a post then don't give it too much attention :).

@Makenshi Saw that post and wasn't really cheering because it sucks when you can't do your work. Yes there are some elitists on here but also for other OS's. Sorry but I just can't stand it when everyone keeps pointing that out towards Linux people (also the ones who are 'okay') and whenever that happens with other OS' guys it's silent.

I shall stop disturbing this rant now 😆

@ctwx I don't really care that much how ppl on the internet can see me 😁. While in other cases I don't like it much, in case of Micro$oft and Window$ I find it very fitting. Their only motivation are money, everything else has low priority or don't matter to them at all. E.g. security updates are not a matter hours like it's common in Linux world, but rather days, weeks, months or years (some are never fixed to this date). They don't care much about standards as long as they can get away with it. Internet Explorer was so broken for so long. They didn't start fixing it until they lost. They are actively trying to maintain their vendor locks - DirectX in last version only available in last OS version - just because of $$$. OpenGL or Vulcan don't do such anti-user things. My "favorite" is forbidding pc shops to sell Linux pcs when Windows pcs are being sold there. If Windows were free as Linux is, I would have probably said Windows are slightly worse than Tux. But Windows are not free.

@monnef So a stock company with 114000 employees wants to make money? What a fucking surprise that is. Did your ever check the definition of what a company is? Why it is formed? Hating on a company for wanting to make money is stupid beyond believe.

Besides did your check who makes major contributions to Open Source projects? Yes. Evillllll companies who want money.

@linuxxx I use Windows and Linux. And recently I added macOS to it. They all suck in some way. But I'm not gonna cry and make up childish names.

Most of the time I run Debian on my main machine. ArchLinux is not bad in general, in contrast, it has a huge Wiki for technical stuff. And most of my friends run Arch. So I'm fine with it.

@ctwx I'm not sure where the crying part suddenly comes from, I think I actually commented in an adult way. Childish names? I never said anything childish.

Good that arch runs well for you. I'm a fedora guy for now myself :).
  • 0
@linuxxx Not you but the OP. I find it extremely childish to write M$ instead of MS, or Microshit, or whatever. If someone wants to criticize they should use arguments instead.

No, Arch is not running for me. I'm using Debian for a few years and had best experience with it .

@Makenshi I don't dislike MS for making money, but for their attitude regarding their (not that great) OS. Abusing their monopol position, forcing bad tech via bribes (DirectX), forcing shops to not sell pcs with pre-installed Linux, ignoring security issues until it explodes and so on. There are companies which actually (seem to) care about users, choices and security.
