!!metarant

I'm so fucking tired of seeing reposts of shitty memes from Reddit into this app. The people posting this shit didnt even make the fucking punchline, but their profiting from it. Also go fuck a duck, I didn't log into devrant to see the same stale fucking memes that were already reposted all over fucking reddit.

Go fuck yourselves, rant properly for fucks sake

    !!rant = rant

Haha hey come on we are programmers we have very limited knowledge about memes and funny things we only fuck with codes
  • 2
It has been a "problem" since day 1 and will continue to be given a large chunk of the audience for the app.
  • 1
I absolutely agree with you. Thanks
  • 2
@shantnuchaubey maybe you are limited in funny stuff and fuck with code... Some of us actually have a life mate...
  • 1
@nocgod like that mentioned in rant
  • 3
@shantnuchaubey what did I mention? I'm just saying this isn't a platform for shitty memes, if I wanted those, I'd go to reddit

I don't have access to a computer right now but I want to do a PR as I had a pretty cool idea for this, or suggest it to dfox
  • 1
I mean, if you post memes, at least let them be fresh and not filled with old, stale shit that's been digested twice. Ffs.
  • 1
    @jens-peter that's what I do.

@Letmecode I feel like it would help if images were hidden in the main feed, only visible if your click through to the post.

That way, people are at least forced to deliver non-rant jokes as text, it would deter cheap "I included an image for the attention" posts.

@rkdkpt I don't ever visit reddit, and they're still old. So meh.

There is a setting for "hide rants marked as reposts", if you haven't activated that already. Also, feel free to downvote and mark as repost, that will help others and help educate your personalized algo feed.

We are finishing up a feature right now that will add category labels to posts so labelled "memes/jokes" can be filtered out.

The real problem is that people continue to upvoted these reposts, and that gives them exposure. I will point out that a lot of what you see on Reddit may have originated elsewhere too. The modern internet is one big recycling center.

@trogus my main issue is that I don't want to see recycled content in devrant, that's what Reddit is for.

Probably doesn't help seeing all the exposure that those reposts get

Especially those comics...I forgot the actual name of the most prominent comic on this app, but boy is it prominent, reposted daily. If I gave a crap about the comics, I would look at the site daily
  • 2
@Redrield I'm sorry, but IMO this rant is absolute rubbish and I think you're being a hypocrite. A number of your rants are recycled content that, personally, I don't want to see. But I don't bitch about them and tell you not to post them.

It's a democratic voting system. Take a look at your own content before you complain about other people's content.

@dfox I agree. I have been pointed out as a hypocrite in this field aswell. But, in this case, I see no harm in posting a cool image from an article or something you find online. If more people get to see something funny, cool. I think what he is addressing are the people that consistently just post crap memes from Facebook and Reddit that people might only wanna see on those sites.
  • 2
@SpencerBeige so he should be allowed to post the crap he finds to be acceptable crap but what he considers to be crap from other people should be banned or censored?

That's why we have a voting system. The OP here posted multiple rants of big rubber ducks that I've probably seen 20 times each already and I don't particularly like seeing. But I don't think other people shouldn't be allowed to see it...
  • 2
@dfox hm. That's a pretty good point, actually. I deleted my one 'crappy meme reposted with an even worse caption' post so as to not agree with you in a hypocritical way. I kinda just saw it earlier that the daily offenders broke this community. But, it really is everyone and their 3 to 5 posts. No ranter should ever deserve to see that rubber duck thing again.
  • 1
@SpencerBeige yeah I mean we're always looking to eliminate reposts and improve the algo. We don't purposely want to subject people to content they don't want to see. But at the same time, I've always told people you're going to see things on devRant you don't want to see. That's the nature of user generated content and he internet.

And look, I get it - not all content is for everyone. There's no denying that. I'm just saying if you're going to claim to be better than other members of the community and tell them how to "rant properly" (from OP) then you better first make sure 15% of the rants you've posted don't consist of reposted rubber duck photos and a screenshot of Google Assistant (literally nothing to do with development).

And do I believe that the OP shouldn't be allowed to post that stuff or should be banned for posting them? No, that would be crazy. They weren't ridiculously off topic and some people enjoyed them. Whatever. I move on with my life if I see stuff I'm not interested in.

@dfox Hm. Yeah, now thinking about it, it would be the same if someone came along and said, "Hey guys, don't post jokes against (Insert favourite language). I don't like those jokes", which would be absolutely absurd
  • 2
@dfox Oh, and I know this is unrelated to this post, but while you're here, did you ever get in contact with g-m-f?

@SpencerBeige I emailed him, check my comments in that rant for a little more info :)
  • 2
@dfox ah, ok. Thanks. Will do.
  • 2
@dfox Just checked. Really hope he replies with good news...He's a great member to the community

    @SpencerBeige agreed, I'm really hoping he's OK!
