Not mine, found this on Reddit, still a good read
========
I work in IT as a lead developer, as in I run the department. One of my team leads is female, let's call her Ripley. She is young, smart, and a great dev.
Today she met with a new customer to discuss a big project. Project management sent a male project manager (Hicks).
It started perfectly with Customer asking Ripley for coffee. He's informed about her status and mutters something like an apology. He is visibly unhappy.
He then proceeds to ask Hicks technical questions despite having been told that Ripley will answer all the technical stuff. Ripley tries to answer questions. Customer ignores Ripley and continues talking to Hicks.
Hicks tells him politely that Ripley is the one to talk to, since he is not a dev and unable to help him. Ripley tries again to explain stuff.
Customer gets angry and demands another developer, since Ripley is "obviously far too young for a project of this complexity". Ripley rolls her eyes and leaves. Not the first time this happens.
Hicks smoothes the waves and tells the customer that the senior lead developer will personally answer all his questions. Customer is satisfied.
I walk in and calmly introduce myself.
The customer - now far less satisfied - was forced to discuss all his questions with yours truly, the 47 year old female IT nerd. I was very professional, friendly, and businesslike, he was visibly uncomfortable and irritated by the situation.
It's petty and stupid, but man, it felt great watching his face fall when I entered. I've been in Ripley's shoes far too often and today I heard 23 old me cheering me on.
Ripley loved it as well. She made sure to smile extra brightly at customer when she walked past the meeting room on her way to the coffee machine.

I'm at the Web Summit in Lisbon and I had the opportunity of watching the founder of Reddit in a lecture. I hope that next year I'll be watching the founders of DevRant. They deserve to be here.6

Q: Is there a word that describes a fear/phobia of regular expressions?
A: Common Sense3 -

Oh wait I'm at work

*Repeats every 10 minutes*
It happens so often I wonder if anyone notices4 -
Reddit: You share an insightful view, the weebs can't handle the cognitive dissonance and downvote you en masse. Mods are inexperienced, power tripping 12 year olds that are unable to self-reflect. It's cancer.
Long live Devrant.

Just saw a thread about Global Reddit Meetup Day. Do we have one in devrant? If not, is it possible to have one? I know the user base is not comparable with reddit, but it would be fun meeting other local developers who rant too 😛8 -
!rant && thanksgivings.
Sure we troll here. Sure we preach strangers here. Sure we hug unconditionally here. But everything is all cool.
I haven't been here very long but I found this community very good to communicate. In fact, we are talking more than dev related things. But I literally don't see any conflict or well.. shit posts/comments.
Really thankful for that. To everyone.1 -
A manager, a mechanical engineer, and software analyst are driving back from convention through the mountains. Suddenly, as they crest a hill, the brakes on the car go out and they fly careening down the mountain. After scraping against numerous guardrails, they come to a stop in the ditch. Everyone gets out of the car to assess the damage.
The manager says, "Let's form a group to collaborate ideas on how we can solve this issue."
The mechanical engineer suggests, "We should disassemble the car and analyze each part for failure."
The software analyst says, "Let's push it back up the hill and see if it does it again."1 -
Accidentally went to Reddit when searching for Redux.
Well, there goes my day, my productivity, my motivation and anything I had in my mind.2 -
Alright then...
At least it parsed null as a string. Better than crashing, but the correct url would have been slightly better.3 -

Am I the only one that devRant almost completely replaced Reddit for the "I'm currently waiting on something so I'm browsing" spot?
Since I've been on devRant, my time on Reddit and even HN diminished quite a lot!
Long story short, this place is amazing :P4 -
Retards at /r/pcmasterrace are laughing at this dialogue. Kind of shows how many of those people actually knows about PC.3

Lesson of the day: never assume a language is bad based on internet comments.
PHP is awesome and solve most of my problems, I'm enjoying more to develop the server side of my app than the app itself and the language is not that complicated to learn and understand.
Do you have any related experience? I would like to hear from you.4 -

The more I interact with people on Reddit, the more I realise that the world needs a new plague.2 -
I really hate it when I try to be careful with disclosing information of my employer in a rant on Reddit but the CTO who fires me go there and replies in full detail in an attempt to shame you. http://archive.is/sfP00
Because I have bigger balls (or a small brain, depending how you see it) I'll leave the post on but with my response to his comment on my thread as anybody may dig my Reddit account before hiring me for a job.
And yes, he is the same guy I refer in this past rant https://devrant.com/rants/1089376/...
It fucking sucks that the CTO will sleep safe and sound and I can't do much than looking for another job and contribute to FLOSS projects while I build new stuff to improve my skills all this while money is running out. I'm glad I'm living with my parents after this shit hit the fan, less stuff to worry about, but this is not life.13 -

By a coincidence I had a pack of cigarettes named “Kresty” – the brand from russian prison.

Just one or two days ago there was a guy asking for opinions on his UI (a reddit viewer app). I couldn't find him and wanted to ask him a question tho.
You probably use some class for fetching the data from reddit, hoe to you make it accessible within your app? Storing a static instance within the application class (like many do with the application context) and using that one?
Would be nice if you could answer ^^13 -

It's amusing seeing something new on r/ProgrammerHumor and a few hours later seeing the same thing posted to devRant. Almost like there's a bot with a 2 hour delay posting to devRant.1 -

TIL trogus registered the subreddit devRant, but it has no posts and is locked. Anyone know what the story here is?1

Holy shit! The fuckery CEO of reddit did to himself is hilarious. He did no good by finally admitting the wrong he did.
To top it off, he himself called him the abuse which he was pissed off about.
Moral: Be moderate if you're gonna do something sketchy like that, rather than going all the way, and then to apologise about it in the end.2 -

Hmm, just noticed lifelog recognises devrant as communication. Found that intresting for some reason. Also dr is the only "communication" app i use for extended period along with sync for reddit.
Also, its 7.50 in morning, not evening. I am not that lazy. -
So subreddits are now app only ? Oh fuck off . Seriously ? Is this the future we are heading towards ? Why use React then if you are not gonna let me use it in the browser.8

Two sites I visit the most now are devRant and Dev.to.
Sites I don’t visit anymore because of obvious reasons:
1. StackOverflow (bunch of pompous retards who think they know the answers to life and 1 + 1 = 2.
2. Programming subreddit (pretty much boring now tbh)
What other places do you fine people visit when not angry with your bosses or the rest of the world that isn’t the devRant community?3 -
If I spent as much time writing code as I did browsing Reddit I would actually be good at it by now1

The fun times, watching the little weenie down voting the guy who thinks vanilla js is better than jQuery. Here I thought devs were meant to be more intelligent, yet somehow a 30kb wrapper for js is better than js itself...

devRant let me post in every 2 hours. And I can reply as many time as I want.. but reddit wants me to wait for 10 mins for each reply

Is there anything wrong with reddit new UI?
I've posted a link there. It shows it is 31% time upvoted. But the total votes are 0. Moreover, when I tried to upvote the link something weird happened.4 -
Not exactly a "programming" rant but...
Was going to try setting up oculus for the first time. I followed the instructions from the main site but somehow it doesn't work. Had no one to ask. The only thing I can do was to seek help from the community.
Most of the community was on reddit.
Best part is, reddit turns out to be blocked in my country.
p.s. I know VPNs can be used, but how if someone that doesn't know about VPNs and stuff can access it? Isn't it kind of unfair to them?3 -

I found this gem - https://reddit.com/r/AskReddit/...

I think I can safely unsubscribe from the /r/ProgrammerHumor subreddit. All the good ones get reposted here anyway :)

Reddit... is so confusing to me. Can't post until you've posted enough... ok... I get it, like a green-card. I have to be in the US for 7 years before I can get a green-card, but I'm not allowed to be in the US. BUT
Seriously... answer me this:
What do I write here... if I want to ask the moderator a question? I've sent a bunch and I'm starting to think that it is my fault. I'm not going to lead the witness here: just please explain it to me.
Will this send it to all of the mods? Do I need to pick 1 mod and put their name there? Please... help me understand. This just shuts my brain off when I read it.6 -
Why do I get downvoted on Reddit when I post a link to my new blog post without any constructive feedback? It's even harder than StackOverflow.6

How do people make money off reddit? I know this might sound stupid, but is there a way to monetise your karma or whatever medals we get?2

Idea, a devrant type website that can be split into different work groups, animation, programming, composing, ect. and then subgroups for more specific jobs, like Reddit and DevRant fused together.7

I love searching for things like "which is the best online learning site" on the Internet and seeing strongly opinionated answers. Like, I don't need your political correctness telling me that it depends! I just need your opinion based on your personal experience! This is why I love Reddit and other discussion sites.

i thought getting to use reddit/devrant more will cure my Facebook addiction.
but now i am addicted to checking reddit/devrant all the time. -

I feel like we need an agreed upon expression or marker to signify sarcasm. (Since the internet is still severely lacking in the ability to textually communicate tone of voice.)
I know that several people have used the "/s" from reddit, but I assume that people have mixed feelings about adopting stuff from reddit for various reasons.
Should we keep going with the "/s" or do we want to come up with something else? (Maybe something computer-nerdier even?)
Should we bully dfox and trogus into adding a sarcasm-checkbox-feature to posts and comments?
Go ahead and share suggestions and ideas. :)1 -
