I haven't worked as freelance a lot but usually when we discuss $ I tell him that if he gets me another project from another company he gets some % or $ of the said project.

Wrong business circle.

Someone who pays a fair price probably has richer friends.

Find that circle instead.

I'm a freelancer / business owner and put my prices on my (business) website and tell people I can't go any lower. If people are trying to low-ball they aren't worth it, just say no thanks.

I've never had anyone say that to me yet but if they did it say thanks but no thanks.
