During my presentations in class, when I use terminal to navigate through folders, unzip the presentation and related files and open the presentation in LibreOffice, I'm termed to be "showing off" my skills
Why can't people appreciate the fact that I did all that even without lifting my hand off the keyboard and in one third the amount of time!2
(!rant) When starting out as a web developer, I did my first project for a external vendor for which I was paid in form of a lunch and some hope of more projects.
For the second project, I was paid one month of agreed upon amount for two months of work.
What's your story?1
Those working as freelancer, how many times has a potential client told you that if you do this job for cheap he would refer you in his business circle and you would for sure get atleast X projects in next quarter ?4
In India a standard WordPress website with 10 pages and blog functionality would cost you as little as Rs. 2,000-5,000! That's $314-$784
And a few "agencies" do make a decent product for the amount
But in general the product is not maintainable at all. I once handled the upgradation of a client and her referrals has been giving me projects ever since!12
I have the image of every member of this community to be some top shot dev who's frustrated because others can't keep up. You get that image from the types of rant you see...
It might be the case that the guy who posted a rant about his manager being useless, and the rant getting 100+ ++ is someone who would have never written a test case in his life!!! (in my opinion that's more bad than a shit manager)5
Is it just me or others too feel that docker completely nailed it with their naming convention.
Like docker, containers etc are so aptly named by their functionality.1
I genuinely want tp know why few devs don't add the opening brace on the same line as method/class declaration ??
Whenever I find a piece of code which follow such style a part of me cries thinking of the time I'll be spending first correcting...14
To write 1000 lines of JS, I need 1 cup of coffee.
To write 100 lines of documentation I need 100 cups of coffee.
For some reason time stops when I open confluence9
I've been here for almost a year now but was too lazy to sign up. It was only a commute or lunch timepass thing.
But finally few days ago something so frustrating happened that I actually signed up. I dint post it as it would have been immature but now that the plus icon works I finally can post stuff..!1
I sometimes thank the education system for teaching me really outdated stuff. Here's why...
With new programing languages with all the jazz and cool tricks, it's not impossible to develop concepts and get in the flow of visualizing problem solution. Like for eg, plython3 had inbuilt method to swap variables but I know how to swap variables without a third variable because I had to do it without python. Now that I have the ability to build algorithms, I can leverage functionalities provided by languages in better way.4
I've worked for 2 firms with billion dollar revenue on contract basis in last years, but I'm still a year away from graduating.
It feels suffocating when after a great night of work I have to go to class among people who don't care about programming at all
I just want to graduate and leave this place...
Ps. Attendance is compulsory in my college and I take computer science classes
Pss. I already make thrice of the highest package in offered in my college for last three years!5
