It's not you users of devRant it's me. After this rant I will be unistalling this app from my phone as part of one of my 2018 goals (spend less time on my phone).
In 2018 if you see me post a rant, comment or ++ anything please remind me about my 2018 goals.
See you hopefully not soon.2 -
Best: Created my own company and have had 8 clients in 2017. Devrant has allowed me to find a community of fellow geeks. I've used github way more in 2017 than any past year.
Worst: Have had at least 2 ex-clients but I've lived and learned from them. I go on Devrant way more than I should. -
I want to code something today but don't want to get into it then have visitors show up.... Now I'm downloading Christmas music (FLAC in highest quality possible of course) and just browsing reddit.2

Why do people (mostly clients) love to pay using paypal? Don't they know it's not a bank and there's really no fraud protection.
I know I'm enabling it by offering PayPal as a payment option...3 -
Anyone know of a good vps company (like digitocean) that is not based in the US?
Currently using DO but want to switch because of the ruling (net neutrality).25 -
Was waiting for my usb drive to show up on my computer to watch a certain tv show, but realized it wasn't plugged into the computer... At least I die wait hours...

Why can't windows just use 'uptime' to show how long the site has been up rather than having to fucking waiting for 'systeminfo' to load.... I'm considering switching over to Linux in the new year, or just buy a new laptop and put Linux on it and use it as my daily driver.4

Blogging / writing, helps to think of something else to be able to solve dev problem.
And sleep (know if you're a morning person or not and know with that). -
When you go out to have a client meeting, then the client doesn't show up (and you only learn they won't show up after you have texted them twice).
Looks like I need to start sending out meeting reminder emails again.... -
Why does a site have two caching plugins? Whoever made this site (that I'm working on improving) needs to get new and updated training.
And why is this site using godaddy shared hosting? I couldn't even update more than two plugins at a time.2 -
People wonder why I use a page builder when creating a WordPress site?!
I do it to get FUCKING CUSTOMIZATION on your site. Some themes are so limited.....2 -
Facebook rant incoming!
I'm so pissed off with Facebook right now, woke up this morning to check Facebook and it asked me to submit a photo of myself (it's not like Facebook doesn't already have many photos of me), then after submitting it logs me out "for security reasons". The only thing I've done different since the last time I was on Facebook was add someone.... If Facebook doesn't approve my photo I will just say fuck it and stay off Facebook.1 -
When you spend so much time at an event you start to get anxiety near the end of it because you have no idea how many unread emails you have waiting for you.

Saying yes to people who want a website for $100.
I've learned my lesson, all brand new websites now start at $1000.9 -
Why do people push me to publicly speak? I'm an introvert.
........
I may have said yes to every meeting from now until the near future, changing that right now.3 -
There's no standard for calendar, makes it so hard to put together a community calendar. Wish organizations would just talk to each other.1

This teacher had a stack of paper that had the lesson and made us basically copy it down, when you were done move to the next lesson. If you showed him there was a mistake on the lesson he would check and if it was a mistake he would give you an extra mark. He allowed us to learn at our pace (except for when there was tests) and make mistakes and discuss how to improve something with those right beside us.

Optimizing images on a client site and I hope the server doesn't crash (I'm not hosting the site).4

Question: When you gets tons of stickers (from a WordCamp for example) do you put every sticker on your computer, or only the companies you support (and funny ones)?1

I'm better at getting work done when I have work to do.
Put your phone on airplane mode, turn off internet on your computer (unless you really need it) and write down what you need to do and when it's due. Just do it.1 -
When you buy a voice recorder it comes with batteries but only a quarter percent left... now I have to go out and buy new batteries before my new meeting.

I have two potential client meetings next week. The first one now knows she needs a website (but I have no clue what her budget is), I think she wants me to host the site as well as do site maintenance. The second potential client I'm working using the barter system (but I think she will end up owing me some money at the end). We will see how they both go.2

Cobol / Mainframe, create on your computer then ftp to server to compile and run (and hope it doesn't crash the cobol region due to infinite running) then ftp to get the output.
-
Anyone else find they work better between the hours of say 10am - 2am rather than the "normal office hours" of 9am - 5pm?
The problem is if I start later then the people who I work with are so absorbed in their work that I don't receive a reply to my email.1 -
When you just want to play a game on your computer but first steam needs to update, then the game you want to play needs updating. Come on I just want to play.
-
I've had a client for 3 months now and they still haven't paid ($100 just for the site) and are surprised at the monthly cost (they wanted site hosting and maintenance which comes out to $75/month) and I want to fire them without burning bridges since the main person is a friend.15

Always fun when you leave 7-zip to run overnight then you check in the morning and it says not enough disk space. Now I need to spend most of the morning getting stuff to external drives. 7-zip why couldn't you give me that error last night so I didn't become angry when I looked.1
