ssmith68yI tried to love Windows too, I really did. Turns out I love my Surface, but the OS? Not so much.

gustash24518yI just can't get around using Windows... It hurts my soul, it really does. Linux feels like the computer is actually mine and under my control. Mac OS just works...

mito2468yBeen coding in windows for ever but have this feeling that I would spend much less time setting up for projects on links with the whole npm packages thing. May give it a go soon
Any recommendation for a Web developer using brackets, git, sass, PSD extractor, ftp,and soon moving to more backend stuff? -
grasscow2368yMy coworker keeps coding in window, and when I need to maintain her code, I found that I don't know how to run her code. And eventually I moved all her code to Linux and that feel just right.

gustash24518y@allen111 why not just do it on Ubuntu then? The Windows 10 subsystem is still missing binaries, so might as well go to Ubuntu itself
-
gustash24518y@allen111 yeah, I know there are some obvious use cases, but I just can't get around using Windows. Personal preference

mito2468yI'm happy to adapt to any OS as long as I can do my job faster. With bash coming to Windows, what is the REAL advantage for a Web developer (front or back end) to use Mac or Linux? Or is it just because you guys are used to it because it just works?
Not trying to create a war here btw. I'm genuinely curious what benefit I would gain moving to another OS because I'm very comfortable with Windows and want to to challenge myself with another one now. -
gustash24518y@mito honestly, everything is a hassle with Windows. Drivers update and stop working, shitty drivers that don't work as intended (like my Intel HD 3000), scrubbing for hours to find that ADB driver for an old Android phone. Plus, Linux Mint is way faster on my machine than any Windows, and does a lot more at the same time without stressing the machine, like Windows did. Battery life is overall better, I have better control of what packages I have installed, I'm not forced to update jack shit, I know no one is keylogging everything I type and I'm mostly immune to viruses. I have (almost) all the software I need, or alternatives for when I don't. I know how the OS works because I installed Arch Linux and I know how to fix something that breaks, Windows only gives me a "oops shit gone south" message. Plus, I love the Linux community, it spars my intellect. Instead of click, click, click, done like in Windows, I get to mess with the actual underlying OS. TL;DR Windows is mostly problems

mito2468y@gustash thanks for the insight! Its funny that toy mentioned the problem with drivers on windows because I see a lot of people saying exactly the same for Linux! Windows 10 support is pretty good and only had issue with very specific case (3 graphic cards connecting to 18 screens. Was a bit too much for it to handle). Anyway, I totally understand all the other points though. I'll start with a virtual machine and see if I can gave a the set up I have on windows on it! Thanks! :D

gustash24518y@mito generally, drivers just work for me. Maybe the problem lies in new hardware, since most drivers come from open-source contributors. They can be slow on the uptake since not everyone uses Linux and it's not exactly paid for
