We all have that one friend who says that he is a computer genius because he built his PC himself but then he doesn't know the difference between bits and bytes.

Is the lack of knowledge the same as being stupid? I do get your point. But I have trouble calling people stupid for this reason.

If you would ask Albert Einstein the difference between Python and C# he could probably not explain it. Does that make him stupid?

Now if that friend refuse to learn more and still insist on calling himself a computer genius he is indeed acting kinda stupid.

That kind of is the beauty of abstraction and high level programing languages. You can write code without knowing what a bit is, what a XNOR gate is, what CMOS or a FPGA is, never have heard of assembly. So just because someone doesn't know one particular thing, doesn't mean he/she's not good in their field.

Although bit and byte is kind of a fundamental thing in computer science

It's just a bit too much for him to byte off.

Can you explain the difference between x86 and ARM architecture? No? Stupid!!!

Same thing really, not everybody need to know everything

    Th-the-there is a d-difference b-b-between bits and bytes? 😓

Hardware isn't software, you don't need to know how to debug to put hardware components in.

I understand you all and I should not have called him stupid.
    I'm sorry.

Maybe he just know a bit about bytes
