Hey devRanters! A tiny update regarding the privacy tips etc site.

So as ewpratten doesn't have much time right now, I'm doing frontend as well for now.

Since some people also offered to contribute content, which I did not expect, I am also writing an invite/registration (based on invites) as we speak. So, this way, I can invite anyone (based on email address) into the CMS so that they can contribute content as well!

Regarding frontend, I'm introducing a system with icons. Icons? Yes, icons, let me explain:

Every application/service will get a couple of default filtering thingies. (not like clicking something and it'll filter anything out, yet) It'll enable users to see what an application does or does not. What the FUCK do you mean? Alright, so, as example, lets say open source. next to each application (read application/service) listed, there will be an open source icon. If the application is open source, this icon will be green, otherwise it will be red.

This will allow for a quick way of filtering stuff out.

For example, if you're only looking for open source stuff, you can quickly filter stuff out where the open source icon is red!

This will apply to things as open sourceness, metadata saving, usage of good crypto technology and so on. So you'll be able to quickly filter out the stuff you want to use (by eyes) through those filters!

Please let me know what you think and if you have ideas, I'll be glad to hear them!

Woooh!...quick question if an app doesnt support a specific icon(ie 'open source') why not just disregard it all together instead of making it red?😞 I'm sure you have your reasons, thanks for the update!! Checking my Riot.im right now!

@KidLaser icons are solely on the site to indicate if a service meets certain specifics :)

@linuxxx I guess a more explicit aproach like that would be more clear.

Sounds like a good idea! Looking forward to it. Best of luck :)

Edit: it's awesome that you remembered to tag me :D

@linuxxx so with that said, say you see the green icon for an open source app and you want more info on the app, would clicking the icon take you to a page with a description to the app and links for the site, etc? Maybe even a review of the app?

Wait is there a specific reason why you don’t want to have an actual filter rather than the green/red icon? Like “filter by ‘is open source’” or something like that

Wow ! Keeping an eye on this!

@MissDirection I kind of threw similar idea towards him in a previous update-post he said he might look into it.
I think it'd be nice to have some valid sources backing whatever claims/details the site makes about the individual apps.
But reviews sound pretty cool too!
  • 6
@KidLaser yeah I'd like to see detail and reviews. Hell, I'd test out apps/services and write content for it.
  • 3
@MissDirection Heck yes, I plan on testing the shit out of this puppy!
Maybe if you ask @linuxx he'll let you do the honor of grunting out the content and stuff, he already knows you have such a way with words 😆

@Linuxxx you are wonderful for going through all this work. As @MissDirection also offered, happy to test/use the apps and write the reviews, look up sources supporting them or whatever other content you need ❤

Count me in, I can help a bit in front-end stuff. But be warned I am good only of (please don't kill me) if you are using bootstrap, I suck at doing alignments in front-end lol

    (No edit in website O_O)
Why don't you make a private repo and add only contributes, someone can do design guidelines for the project, other can do coding style, other do actual work ..etc. you get my point :)
  • 0
There a link to the website/repo around here somewhere? Is there a collab for this?
  • 2
@MissDirection Yeah something like that is the idea :)
  • 1
@AngryDev Might introduce that later but the front end skillsets of me and ewpratten aren't that far yet haha
  • 2
@Numinex Since its a collab between two guys on here not yet and planning on keeping that until the initial release (which tbh shouldn't even take that long) so it's gonna become bigger with more contributors after the first release I think!

And damn again, way more help offerings than I thought... O.o
  • 2
@Numinex Oh and yes open sourcing the stuff is gonna happen after we get a working version and the code is cleaned up 😅

For the record.. school sucks and I am so happy that I get to work on this tomorrow!

Bro that blue/purple color is blinding me. I hope it's not the default theme. Start with something dark...but not black.
  • 4
@Archetipo Nahh that's just a quick thingy I came up with haha! Working on a light scheme right now but OF COURSE will include a dark theme!

@linuxxx i love the icons ideea. It provides lots of posibilities on long term. If you need help with frontend let me know...
