retnikt67747yI understand the reasons behind all of them except WiFi, device ID and SMS. Why?
{
Identity = for signing in/up
Contacts = for finding contacts
Location = Snap Maps
SMS = ??? (Maybe for verification purposes?)
Files = accessing photo library
Camera = for taking photos
Mic = for recording videos with sound
WiFi = ??? (Maybe for switching to some kind of data saver mode?)
Bluetooth = Snap Spectacles
Device ID = ??? (Probably some kind of metrics...)

yugi9527y@retnikt sms for auto grabbing the verification sms and device thingy, snapchat doesnt work (login error) on some rooted androids, just because they are rooted. After i rooted my phone i had to login snapchat on my tablet and then copy and paste app data from it to my phone so i can use it.

Balzy267ySometimes I feel the same. That's how it works, free app means you pay with your personal data...
Just keep in mind that in new Android systems you are asked for each permission the first time the app needs it and you can deny if you wish. -
I've done android dev before, and I included a permission I needed, but then it said my app needed access ~3 other permissions that I didn't need. But they were related to the original permission at least, I don't know about the SMS for Snapchat, doesn't make sense.

Balzy267yI remember SMS is required for "automatic" number verification when you sing up, so you don't have to type the verification code you receive.
Put apart the fact that the more data they collect the more they earn, which is true. For apps like WhatsApp, Instagram and Snapchat, used by billions of non tech savvy people, ease of use is a must.

Fuck I hate bloated app permissions but I guess todo lists that know who you most likely to chat to when taking a dump is what we get for demanding everything for free. I get why Snapchat wants so much, I just find it fucking ironic that this is from a company that founded itself on the concept of privacy 🤦♂️
