Unfortunately, that's the way it is. At least VSCode has a ppa. Most other electron apps are not more than web pages anyway.

what if you place updated version in HOME and check that for folder for new version if that exists run that and exit yourself

@manox14 That's a good idea which can be implemented on app start.

One additional part required would be a cron to download the latest release (upon users approval of course). Don't want users to find and download files themselves.
