When you get a laptop that comes with freeDOS?

Yeah, it's a bit long. Sorry.

I haven’t seen FreeDos on anything since Windows 3.1, thought it was lost since windows 95 days.

You might want to double check the actual OS that laptop comes with 😂

@C0D4 I did, apparently it actually comes with freeDOS :).

    @LinuxUser0001
Just jumped on freedos’s website apparently it’s still in development 😕

So I hope you have a massive dos game library because that’s about all you could hope to use on that 1TB HDD if it even supports that high as it appears to be FAT32 still.

@IsDev Link or make and model?

Here I've often saw laptops that come with freedos instead of windows. On both online and local stores.

Not sure why, but I guess it's cheaper.

Who the fuck pays for DOS?
  • 4
    It's "Free"DOS for a reason
  • 5
    It has FreeDOS, just because
    1. It's free, if they would install Windows (legally), they would need to pay license fees.
    2. With FreeDOS, you can unfuck a fucked install of most operating systems, because it's mostly a easy configuration issue.

Of course, it is not meant to be your primary operating system.

@LinuxUser0001 Asus P2530UA-XO0119D, nothing special, but i have also a desktop, so i don't need a powerful laptop

    OMFG.
If you buy a laptop these days, almost all of them come with windows preinstalled. The OEM version. you actually pay for windows when you buy a new laptop. In fact, OEM bundles is the way MS makes most of thier money....
In case you plan to use something else, like Linux, you might want to buy a cheaper laptop, that has a Free os like freedos, and then install linux by yourself.

@setrofex well if it's called free DOS, the assumption is there is a paid DOS too, otherwise you may as well just call it DOS.

@Gatgeagent If it's about license costs, why not preinstall Ubuntu or something?
  • 1
@bittersweet Because if they sold ubuntu preinstalled they would have to support it. Some companies do it and make a selling point out of it but for others it is easier to install freedos and attach a note that some hardware parts are not supported due to os limitations (my Acer did that IIRC).

@RTRMS it's not an assumption but it was a paid version and it is called Ms-DOS

@setrofex you pay Ms DOS? I know you paid for windows, but never knew you could buy Ms DOS.

@RTRMS At first when it appeared you had to buy it, but now there is freedos and yeah, the name says it all
