hayz8558yMacOS ;)
Mostly because it is a UNIX shell enclosed in fine looking package, that is not too buggy ( looking at you Ubuntu ).
Regarding the iPhone, after few years of android use I'm back to iOS, mostly because system is polished, and it works smoother than android phone with 2x more ram. -
At the minute, personal machine is a Mac. Also have a Windows machine as I still support some .NET stuff. Work machine is Linux. I run WebStorm on all 3 so it doesn't really matter! Whichever one is easiest to reach!! 😁
-
xroad23188yDefinitely OS X. I don't care how many fedoras or penguins object but I don't have time to waste trying to get things to work.
-
In terms of phones, I definitely prefer iOS. I had an Android phone before my iPhone 5S and I'm still incapable of how people can say that Android is better than iOS. It's slower, less user friendly, a lot more aesthetically pleasing; must I go on?
With laptops, I had a Windows for four years, and I ended up having to go get it cleaned out at least three times and it still never functioned to its fullest extent (after only 5 months). I'd say OS X is better for the same reasons as iOS. -
@swantzter oh and I've nothing against if there's a decent package manager included...
But for GUI I think I prefer os x as supports more proprietary software, in case I need that (i rarely do)
For phones: does IOS have *NIX and bash?
Yeah, Android rocks. -
gustash24498yComputer: I love Linux and macOS equally, but if I had to choose, it'd be Linux. No Windows thanks, never again.
Phone: 100% Android. I can't stand iOS. Worse third party apps like Twitter and Reddit, less extensible with sharing and everything, waaaaay better notification system and hugely more costumizable. -
xroad23188y@gustash worse how? It's universally known that apps are almost always better on iOS (i.e. more stable, smoother) than Android.
-
gustash24498y@xroad first party, yes, but I barely use them. Swipe for Facebook, Talon for Twitter, Swipe for Reddit. All million times better than the official ones. I have yet to find one that offers the same experience on iOS.
-
xroad23188y@gustash all that proves is that those platforms need to step up their game, it's got nothing to do with iOS or Apple. And that's a few out of hundreds of thousands of apps in the Play store. You're ignoring how many tens of thousands of serious malware code have been uploaded there.
-
xroad23188y@gustash not to mention how most people go iOS first because it's a smoother eco system for building apps so typically the newer features come on Android later
-
Are you kidding? all of the hate is for Windows. If I had to choose it would definitely be Linux.
-
i hate apple products but only when im the one paying for it, else wise i would rather develop web on apple then linux and windows because its gui just so good i enjoy using it. it feels like for once i dont need to enter lines of codes to get it working
-
markibanez68yI don't think OS matters that much for web dev. More of personal preference. I use both Windows and Linux and I would bet I'd be comfortable with macOS.
-
gustash24498y@xroad You seem to have a really twisted idea of Android. When was the last time you tried it and what device did you try it on?
-
mito2468yWhat tools/software do you use for your Web development on Linux/Mac? Serious question from a windows user
-
gustash24498y@xroad then I can't understand how you say its less aesthetically pleasing and slower. I definitely feel that iOS a lot slower than Android and that the indie developers' apps feel way nicer on Android. To each it's own
-
xroad23188y@gustash it's not an opinion. It's a fact. And I can actually tell you why. The UI thread has the highest priority on iOS so interacting with a device feels snappier. Also on Android the code is compiled from byte code to native at runtime so starting up the app feels more sluggish. I've heard that has changed since the move from Dalvik to ART but I personally haven't done many performance tests to notice either way. Mostly because a ridiculous number of devices still run on Jellybean so it doesn't even make sense to optimize code for newer devices.

I've seen a lot of hate to Macbooks and Apple products in general, and although I agree that iphone could be dramatically improved in terms of hardware I think that OSX is the best platform to do Web development.
Which one would you pick and why? Windows, OSX or Linux.
