Perhaps bitten nails? A friend of mine used to bite his nails while coding and he could really hurt himself on a rough night.

I didn't understand why there suddenly were all those red specks over my keyboard. I hadn't eaten any jam nor jelly.

Then I found papercut-size cuts on my fingers. And I have no idea what caused them. All I know is that I didn't have any before going to work.

Clean your keyboard it might be flesh eating bacteria, no joke.

@haabe, if you have very dry skin it or some vitamin deficiency, your skin could break open because of the pressure. You need a nutritious diet and a moisturizer if you want to avoid it. But you should check a dermatologist, just in case.
