Maybe a little controversial but...

    This... Yes yes yes yes yes :D. Admittedly I know nothing about how companies work in detail, but still sounds like a financially sound idea to me 😂

    Actually moving to Linux is a lot more expensive, because company has to get new build for Linux software (it’s even worse if they’re using custom one), modify computers, teach all employees to use it, get new IT support... Its not as easy as most people think

    @athlon that's something that should be a standard, it's obvious that for an already implanted company, it is almost impossible

    @Orionss But it will not be. I would love to, but let’s be real

    @athlon indeed moving to linux can be problematic but i always wondered why starting with linux is not viewed as an option either

    @cyberlord64 It's what I would like to do with a startup...

    Agreed 100%. My company has avoided this though, because my director of IT believes that open source software is inherently insecure, and must be bad anyway, because "it's free, so it must be worthless". He has no idea that our servers run Linux. It's an ancient version of it, but we do use that at least.

    @nosoup4u Taht's better than those Windows Server in old enterprises... x)

    @Orionss Didn't want to go into too much detail, but the version (3.something via a five year old version of CentOS) of Linux we use is run on VM's on machines that do run Windows server 2003...so....yeah. It's ridiculous.

    @nosoup4u But why ? How can this be advantageous ?

    @DucksCanCode I know how much you love memes, here's my gift to you ;)

    @Hedgepig you also know how much I love causing pain then? :)

    @Orionss Obviously it isn't. But you know. People can be very fucking stupid.

    I know a lot of people are anti Google, but my company uses hundreds of chromebooks.

    $250 per laptop, encrypted harddisks (safe from all but Google spying), maintenance free... perfectly fine for 95% of employees.

    Servers are Linux of course (AWS), devs just get a $3k hardware budget every 2 years so half use MacBook, half use XPS or MacBook with Linux on it.

    @bittersweet it sounds amazing... 😍

    @athlon Yea, if they use Windows they think, they can skip the part of teaching them. Let the support have more useless tickets, that the battery in their wired mouse might be empty.
