Saving to buy a Mac.

I'm a full stack developer: I do Web Development, Backend Development.

Not a graphic designer but I use Photoshop and Illustrator to modify assets that I receive clients.

What is a good budget Mac Laptop that I can hang on for most of my work ?

Are there options? I thought they just made one with different levels of performance

Edit: I mean MacBook pro. Other are toys

    im with @Froot.
macbooks are macbooks (pro or not)

i think its more to do with how much money you're willing to throw down the drain vs what specs you'll end up with.

@Froot realised that.. thought I could get smth else with the same performance but cheaper. Thanks 👍

@runfrodorun I'm kind of scared of used products. Usually they ve hidden faults you may discover later ..

get a apple refurbished one since your going down the MacBook path.

Atleast it comes with the warranty, and is 2nd hand so there’s discounts.

But do you actually need a MacBook for photoshop? You could save almost half the price and still use PS.

@C0D4 I have a Yoga 360 Lenovo with Linux installed. It's fine for development but when it comes to graphic design, the Linux alternatives are kind-of, not the best.
That's why I want a Mac. So I can bridge the Linux and Windows barrier.

I can even sell this one..

Another vote for a refurbished 2013 rMBP. I got mine new, and it still runs well. What to replace it with when it fails is the real question.

By the way, if you ever have any serious component failures, Apple has a $300 flat-rate repair that will replace everything but the screen. The laptop involved when I learned of this got a new logic board, keyboard controller, and bottom shell out of the deal.

Best Mac is not a Mac

Walmart.com actually has good prices on used ones. These are sellers using Walmart as a platform but they have lower prices there than anywhere else I’ve found. I use a mid 2014 MacBook Pro around $2500 new goes for around $1000. Good specs and robust as long as you aren’t trying to run parallels.

@jeeper hey, what do you mean by parallels, you can't run two programs at once ? 😳

    Am checking the website now

@jeeper they don't ship outside the U.S. But they do have some pretty good deals here. Found a refurbished Mac Pro i7 for $1100

You can get last year's model for a good price usually.. and its almost just as fast.. as long as your not using it to make iOS apps.

@jamesharrington I make apps on a 14. I don’t think it will really have a problem til 2020 or so

@codeStalker parallels refers to running a dual boot of windows and Mac OS. Parallels is the boot loader manager I think.

@jeeper awesome I don't do iOS apps. Thanks for the input :) I just know apple has a habit of not supporting older devices.
