Really thought Facebook changed the messenger icon. This smells of spam and paid reviews. I thought Google was working on trying to combat obvious name conflicts and spam.

To be honest, I think this is as much on Facebook as it is on Google...
Who the fuck calls their program "Messenger"?
Like, I'm gonna code this app that does "a". What am I gonna call it? "a" of course... Ffs I know coming up with names is hard but that's just idiocy... Like trademarking a word from the English dictionary... Oh, I'm sorry, I'm not allowed to use the word "sentence" anymore because it is trademarked by company x so my strings of words that end with a dot, question mark or exclamation point will now have to be that word-free...
Get my point? Not much Google can do in that case since it allowed such dumb names in the first place... They're still idiots for different reasons, but naming your app Messenger is just utter nonsense.

Instead of messenger they should call it "fucking annoying bubbles that float on top of things you actually want to see, which is probably the shittest UI paradigm since Windows 8's start screen". Then there would be no name conflict.
