Facebook Lite and Messenger Lite are good enough and use less battery since they don't load nearly as much garbage.

Well, I had Facebook Messenger and had no battery issues (have a Xiaomi Redmi 4X). I also have Facebook app (the full one) but what I do is basically:

- disabled notifications in the app
- disabled background execution using greenify
- disabled email notifications of app

I just use it when I access to it. And discovered there was a Messenger lite app. Zero problems.

You should probably try frost. Does the job well and as an added bonus has dark theme too 😁
