Year 2023

phone charges from 10 to 100% in <30min
battery holds for 3-4 days

... I still can't believe it.
What kind of black magic is this...

    Meh, I did expect hoverboards by now

    No phone lasts for 3-4 days under what is considered "normal usage" nowadays.

    Mind you. I have a 5400 mAh battery, have no social bullshit apps (very known for draining power by constantly calling home), no games or whatsoever, and 3 days is the record.

    I agree on the whole fast charging thing, but still, while we use chemical batteries, that's gonna wear down batteries like mad (although it's what they want)...

    @CoreFusionX energy profile maybe.

    I wish I could spend four days with my phone. I don't have a life and I'm on it full time. I actually have two phones even

    @CoreFusionX well, my old-trusty S7 edge hardly lasts for 3-4 hours under what you call "normal usage" (and what I call raping the battery). And discharges 50% in 24 hours under low usage.

    this new one... this morning I woke up - it had ~30%. In the evening it had 18% remaining (some games, some dR browsing, some photos - my casual usage).

    I bet it could do more than 4 days if I were more conservative.

    This is crazy!!

    The 120W charger is impressive too.

    One thing I hate about it is its size. It's too big (that's what she said). I can no longer use it single-handed (also, that's what she said).

    Oh dear lord!

    The 200mpx mode is out off this world. I can take a pic of my soup bowl and if I zoom into the spoon I can almost count Kiril's pubes stuck between @kiki's teeth reflecting from the Moon

    oh wow... Some aspects of tech have really improved

    @netikras

    Samsung are, in my experience, (I've had a Samsung S3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 10 and 21) terribly bad at energy management.

    Sure, 120 Hz makes scrolling super smooth. It takes twice the power.

    Always on screen... Yeah.

    One UI is terrible beyond redemption.

    And defaulting to above 1080p, which is, IMO, pointless in a cellphone screen.

    But yeah, I concede there have been enormous advancements to those of us who still think their phone is meant to communicate and do the occasional transaction, and those (gen Z? don't know anymore) who make their life revolve around their fucking phone.

    Up the Voltage (or the current in some cases). The higher the wattage, the bigger the adapter

    in 2027 EU law comes to effect that forces replaceable batteries like there were with nokias.

    Samsung was able to make phones with easily replaceable battery waterproof years ago.

    I'm holding my phone till this comes back.

    And no i dont want an ugly ass looking fairphone.

    @joewilliams007 this is actually huge.. Cuz flagship phones are already at a state where you can keep them many years ams they are still fast. (e.g. note/s10 lasted forever, only decline due to battery..) . Imagine phones wont be a throwaway product anymore!

    @joewilliams007 who want those replaceable batteries.. Like it's a problem switching batteries once at a phone guy. I think we go back in time

    @retoor i dont have that kind of money 🙄. Also, i want a samsung z flip for so many years. But if i buy the battery thing is shit shit. (although jerry rig everything actually managed to replace it without breaking sth).

    Anywho. I want to have it as simple as possible, and they will be easier to buy too! Also uhm it gives me an excuse to wait for the zflip9 or sth haha. Where maybe that creek is solved even better than now. My phone is also good good right now soo yee.

    @joewilliams007 a guy that can code like you will have money in dem future. Don't worry :)

    @joewilliams007 what you call "ugly" is just the (at least partial) lack of childrens blood on it.
  • 0
    @retoor yeah. go find a phone guy that doesn't horrendously overcharge you for something that you could do on your own in less than a minute, but are prevented from doing for NO reason other than to make you pay _juuuuust_ a little bit more.

    because Praised Be The Profits!

    @tosensei okay true. But every single model looks bad. I hope this battery law will stop everyone buying new phones every couple of years. It's definently going to stop me.

    @joewilliams007 yeah, but you can say the same thing about iphones.

    and in the end: EVERY smartphone is a slab with a screen in the front. the differences are just dimensions, and whether or not "designers" waste precious oxygen on garbage like "rounded displays" or "camera notches/holes".

    and ask yourself: when in doubt, would you _really_ prefer a phone that looks good over one that _works_ good?
  • 1
    @tosensei uhh. well the iphoners did a pretty ugly job with that notch. i just think the fairphone could atleast be out of metal but not plastic. And with my phone often being under water it wouldnt even have survived... My current phone just works good :/. And actually the back comes of super easy under a little to reveal the battery. But thats probably cuz it also has a plastic back.

    @joewilliams007 i can report that my fairphone 3 flawlessly survived being dropped into a lake, and being dropped onto stone from 3 meters. (both with no armor)

    What V18 120W flagship speedboat are you driving, @netikras

    @scor xiaomi 12t

    it's much bigger than the old timer s7 edge so less comfortable to use with a single hand and thus I hesitate so make the switch completely. I'm using it as my camera. The 200mpx pictures are truly impressive.

    I charged it last on Friday, spent the whole weekend traveling and shooting pics, made several video calls. Currently the batt is still 24%
