I'm really close to just quitting coding all together. This job is sucking the life out of me. I've lost my interest in code and the idea that there are better jobs out there.

My "boss" who's not even really my boss but behaves like he is, is micromanaging my every tag, and is an information hog. He doesn't document, he doesn't tell me anything, I've been here six months and still don't know half of what I need to know to do my job properly!

I'm expected to implement a new responsive design, but we don't have design specifications.
Cool, you'd think, new ideas, complete overhaul! Let's get a good foundation in bootstrap going!

WRONG! It needs to fit in with the old, fuck- ugly pre 2000 design.

Not because of any design constraints in particular, but because HE wants it that way. You know what was fucking trendy in 2000? Tables. Tables fucking everywhere. YOU KNOW WHAT TABLES ARE NOT? RESPONSIVE YOU FUCKING ICE LOLLY CHEWER!

We have no development timeline, no process management, no fucking project management. THE FUCKING PASSWORDS WERE STILL STORED IN PLAIN TEXT UNTIL LAST MONTH YOU IRRESPONSIBLE BANANA DEEPTHROATER! 😀😀😀😀😀😀

I'm doing my best here to get something resembling the old page, but there needs to be some fucking compromise! We are in fucking 2017, let's work with Bootstrap instead of against it, how about that you fucking bald cactus!

I know enough about UI to know that the way we're going, this is just going to be another unusable fucking clusterfuck.

YOU KNOW THE BEST FUCKING PART? I'M A FUCKING BACKEND DEV AND I WAS HIRED AS SUCH! GIVE ME A DESIGN TEMPLATE AND I'LL DO MY BEST TO IMPLEMENT IT, BUT FUCK YOU FOR EXPECTING FRONT END LEVEL DESIGN KNOWLEDGE YOU DUMB FUCKING SPAGHETTI!

Sad to see fellow devs to have these jobs. If you lived around the Netherlands I could have helped you get a job around here, I know multiple companies which are the opposite of what you explained.

@Codex404 around the Netherlands is relative, I'm in Europe though. Any tips? A lot of Devs I've worked with from the Netherlands have been top notch and I still owe one of them a beer anyway πŸ˜†

No idea what your country is like for work but that sounds absolutely shite, not all development jobs are like that thank fuck
  • 2
Dude, there are better jobs than that, really sounds like you went to a really shit company...

@miau ah yeah around in the Netherlands is what I meant. The company I work for has a quite a few of foreign people. 5 from italy, 5 from brittain, 1 from Poland, 1 from Russia. So foreigners are welcome. But a ton of people who have worked at a regular company before say no because of the salary. Its not top notch, but you do get to work for multinationals, international organizations and governments.

Lol. Leave your job. But if you do, do it with style.
    Im talking about something like
    DROP TABLE *
    or
"whoops, I deleted all the backups of our code. sorry"

Somehow I have a hard time to sympathize with a backend dev who's unhappy with their job and not just takes a new one. Especially in Central Europe backend devs are wanted like everywhere.

I've experienced something like that before and I have to tell you... shitty bosses are oftenly a thing, just digest it and move on. You can't fix that, really! But that's not a reason to give up what you love, like it's not a reason to give up life because of stupid people who are out there waiting on the next corner for you. Move on, do what you love and if you are not happy screw them and find a better job :)

Time to leave. No reason to go to a place you clearly are not happy. Fuck what your coworkers will think, you gotta look out for you.

@ppetermann easier said than done, it really depends on the geographic location. I have been looking for new jobs but they just aren't there without up and moving at least 300 km away.

There are certain reasons why I'm staying where I am at for now. Not everywhere in Central Europe is a Backend Dev Jobseeker's paradise.

Is this guy the only "manager" in your company? He sounds like an absolute dick, but maybe you can take it to his boss?

Otherwise, hope you can get out. In addition to the shit you mentioned, this doesn't seem like it gives you the work experience you were looking for at all.

    @Codex404 governments... hmmm

@gitpull they are not the worst to work for at least here in the Netherlands and Germany.

You should quit your job and join another or at least go solo and do something you like by your own
