    Scary

@jestdotty yeah, people have blondfolded hate for bigger companies. Apple for example, is one of the greatest contributors of USB-C. And not scary at all.

@aviophile They're also on WebGPU and vetoed the suggestion that WebGPU use SPIR-V for shaders, probably because Vulkan (which they're also a part of, despite not supporting it) is heavily inspired by Metal and they want to leave open the possibility of suing everyone who did implement it.

Every company is on these groups because it's a unique opportunity to have a say in the development of something they don't own. Nothing altruistic about it.

This is a bit of a conspiracy theory, but there aren't a lot of explanations why Apple categorically opposes IP sharing between the two graphics standards they are included in.

@kobenz But they _are_ implementing WebGPU, so they clearly don't consider both external things they must defeat.

@jestdotty I fully think they're greedy enough, I just consider this a conspiracy theory because it's very convoluted in proportion to the amount of available data. The only reason I even consider it is that there's really very few plausible explanations for why they specifically would want to avoid IP sharing in opposition to pretty much the entire WebGPU community.
