Steam teaches me something new every day

I mentored at a teachers workshop (Code Create Teach) as a high school student once. But the teachers didn’t seem to happy having a kid teach them though.

It’s rather sad,

Working on an Ajax upload for my first time.

It’s taking forever.

And of course, simply I have no idea what I’m doing.

And yet alas,

I got so very very excited.

Because,
The error message was finally different this time.

Tried playing Dwarf Fortress again today.

So much information and learning.

I quickly went back to coding, seems to be far less work now.

Playing rogue and nethack on a DOS emulator.

Had a new assignment(in liberty basic) in my computer studies course:

Ask user for the name of their favourite cartoon character. Then have the name move across the terminal screen with a once second delay.

So I spent about 30 minutes trying to find some sort of delay function in liberty basic. Finally I stopped using a for loop and instead move that code into a subroutine and tried to use the timer to run it every second.

Didn’t work.

So I finally gave in and asked the teacher. He explains for loops to me(after thoroughly investigating my keyboard(which is the same as his) for the cap locks key) and then use a incrementing for loop to 500000 as the delay. Next he told me that it felt like a second and he left.

Later he checked up on me making sure I understood.

Me: Not exactly—

Kid: Do you know what jailbreaking is?

Me: Yeah.

Kid: So do you jailbreak stuff?

Me: No—

Kid: Oh so you don’t really do programming.

So she gives me a .5 mark on whatever I want

I was writing some super basic following ai on paper during another prolifically stagnant physics class, and my teacher walks over to me...

She looks over my shoulder at the paper and continues to stare...

“Programming stuff,” I replied when she prompted me as to what it is that I was writing.

Then she continued to stare...

And stare...

Pointing at the word “energy”, she made a most enlightening and endearing comment: “Looks like physics.”

Then she walked away

And that was that
