@linuxxx i almost never reboot/shutdown my computer at work but i swear i know how to :p
-
what about we give your boss the benifit of the doubt. it takes 2 days however the business can only start 2 weeks from now as you guys are busy :p
i know almost 100% of the time this is not the case -
i couldn't tolerate that in my last job after too many repeated occassions of it happening for 2 years.
I tried to educate my boss and help him manage things better but in the end i had to walk out of the job. -
another dev that knows to manage their work :)
-
as most people have already mention on the forum already:
finding the right person. rehiring and training is expensive too. -
make sure you get the 565k and no less. ;)
looks like they wanna hold onto you -
@snypenet it happens too frequent in our industry. planning is def important and they need to be set by the individual/team that is building it.
Planning is not easy too and sometimes our estimation can be very wrong due to underestimating challenges along the way or whatever other reason.
I think its important that us dev try to get involve with planning the deadline. if you are in a place that you can't and works become too much i suggest its time to move before you burn yourself out.
You will def pick up a lot of skill or refine your techniques with these arbitrary deadline however you will pick it up anywhere you work too.
I guess the question is how long can you work like this? -
not my story but i heard from a friend she made no change. later showing the same thing and it was exactly what they wanted.
-
yay there are also others who are unfraid of being fired like me :)
It seems like its the problem of your PM, he made that promise. He needs to go back to the client and say it's taking longer than expected.
Also, sometimes people lie about what they need to get what they want. But the client may not even need it till weeks away ;) -
project deadline fail does not mean the project fail
whats the worst that can happen if the project is late?
does anybody die? -
wow.. this is a true story?
haha :)
grats! -
Are you moving to a new job or are you creating your own business/freelance?
Personally for me, if i was changing job I wouldn't mention it because I don't know what the next job is like or if it allow me time to work on other projects - I might promise to help but will be unable to help.
I'm sure your current employer has your contact number which allow them the option to ask you for help if they need it, then you can decide from there. -
agree with @lubwn
Its important for us dev to learn to manage up and setting the expectation instead of the person in charge of you creating the deadline.
i understand some may have unresonable bosses, but thats a diff story. -
this will help dev that require to write certain quantity of lines aha
else {
// many more line of code that never get executed.
} -
sounds like the issue of the boss and not your team :p
hopefully outsource goes bad so he regonize what you guys do for the business.
all the best! -
i avoid bringing my laptop home over night, however there are exceptions when i take it home to work.
This just help keep me away from thr computer coding but i still code mentally -
i have a normal life but i am not normal.
-
see if you can help with something that you use and want to help improve
-
im going to go ahead and say yes thats fine, im sure they just want to see code to review.
Else if unsure, maybe you can ask them if that code would be what they are after else maybe they can make a request for you to code. -
lol
i love it! -
atleast you are having fun :)
make sure to enjoy it away from the computer too -
ummm no..
you cant do this forever.
your manager need to manage his project's better. -
I wouldn't lock the client but knowing how the client is.. in the future charge a percentage upfront and when full payment comes then the new iteration will be release.
if a person commit at the start then they will most probably want to pay for the function. :) -
Sure, this will take {hours} hours costing ${price}.
