@irene I meant the person that uses the tool, it was something my game programming teacher would say
I don't really want to get into a childish debate about which engine is better they have their advantages and disadvantages, if one doesn't fit your specifications use another simple as that. -
@irene I wouldn't blame the tool for the performance issues but the tool using it, if you know how to do any basic debugging you can do so in unity via the profiler and find out what causes the peformance hits, I'm still cleaning up the mess from the tool that worked before me
-
@speedcodenet I'm no where near as good as the photon network developers are for networking/multiplayer skills/knowledge.
It would take me years to write something they made that is free to use for the public, I simply just added some little extra features that I find is useful. -
I know how you feel, everytime the multiplayer API does an update, I have to weigh in the time it will take to add in my custom changes again/test/fix bugs vs. not updating at all.

Not sure how relevant the idea of not many games run on linux anymore, at least when using steam there are around 5,400 (I made sure to only tick games and not dc lol) games that have linux support.
It might be one big company but at least they are trying their best to get compatibility for linux (and shifting away from windows in the process) and I think with this other companiea might follow since if they don't they'll lose competition. -
As a person who struggles to name variables things that are not insanely long I welcome any name that isnt two letters, at least it's readable, though don't really mind either way
-
@RiPtide switch cases are a great wait to filter through enums, and most IDEs i've dealt with auto fill all enum types for what ever you put inside switch (enum)
I havent found a way to simplify filtering through enums faster than switch cases, it is certainly cleaner and more readable than say use else-if statements
I use it quite a lot for enums in game development, it was for particular circumstances as all tools in the programming are used in their specific cases, sure there maybe a chance you wont ever use it but if you ever need to do something specific with enums well then thats when it will be useful -
@AleCx04 had it pretty rough with iOS and Xcode and didnt mind using android studio or Android, used them both on an ancient Mac (2015 or later i think) Android studio ran great and Xcode not so much. Also had issues with setting up certificates for the iOS app I worked on (which in the end I answered a question people had trouble woth).
Some things are good about each side of coin, personally like Android when it came down to it. -
@RiPtide uh what's wrong with switch cases?
I understand you want to learn a new language but you have to learn to prioritise what is important, not saying learning a new language is fun and all but you went to university to get a degree, gotta stick to that as your main priority. Once your assignments are done take the time to learn new language, design principles and such.
Anyway that's my opinion, take it as how you see it. -
Record them doing drugs and post it on their website, lol guess it wouldnt be petty revenge then
-
At least you got money i got a handshake :/
-
Basically what @Root says, i'd just add be able finish something, one of the things companies look for (if you want to down that route is completed projects) that and a portfolio.
You could try something like gamemaker to learn how games work and if you want to go down the line to make something bigger scale try out unity. -
i saw a commit where someone wrote "it's 2am" and another which was someyhing like "agshfjahfhfjdjg"
-
I'm a simple game dev I see the word game and ++ all comments :D good job!
-
Ive seen some random names for variables, found a game object in a main menu scene i was working on it was called Thing....
no comments, or anything that helps me understand what the hell it is.... The nerve of somr people -
@irene kinda what I thought tbh, thinking something like an opensource aoftware you used wasn't that great or something.
I guess for me I've used gimp and it works but the time I used photoshop worked for me it felt a lot better just easier to pick up for me, I ain't picky when it comes to either ans generally if I need something edited I ask my brother because he is 1000x better than me (if not/he's busy, ill do it myself)
Aside from that Blender3D! Love it and won't ever use anything else because I'm so used to it, used it over the years and learnt all the neat little tricks, I won't ever be a pro 3d artist (do a couple prototype gameobjects for when I wanna test things) so it works for me and if i ever need anything professionally done I ask my bro! (he has 3ds max, zbrush, and maya for the gooood stuff) -
My cat woke me up at that time lol scratching on my door wanting attention
-
I know this dude that practically did nothing for his projects, one of those all talk guys, aomehow he made it into a game design masters degree, glad i didnt end up doing masters i dont ever want to ne in a group with that dude.
One of the projects we did together, was just a team member for him dropped out, and he got put in our group, laat day of the assignment he asks "hey need any help with anything", "yeah that'd be great" "too bad im at a party getting drunk"
and the rest of the night it was more measages asking if we needed help but it got harder to read each time. He got an easy B+ for doing shit all -
@Teknas you can see the edge of the underline bit, I wouldn't say it's hidden
-
@FlipFloop if you get a certain amount of ++'s on a rant you get free stickers and a stress ball (separately though) i think the amount is in the settings somewhere
-
For me, I don't really need to think of anything that my lecturer should have told me, I had a great programming lecturer the second time around.
I say that only because the programming 1 lecturer taught us only the basics and seemed to know just that, when it came to things like lab classes, I would ask her about things, before she would answer she would say "hang on let me get my notes...."
Second Semester she is gone! We get an amazing lecturer who could probably off the top of his head explain the basics - intermediate knowledge for programming, though it wasn't his knowledge just really how every was explained.
Also he made me want to get into game development more, so theres that lol. -
I used java for majority of my university time and again when developing an android app, wasnt that bad, I used c# now because of unity but I don't see any need to say I hated java.
objective-C is another thing entirely ugh... -
Hah nah mine is basically dead too, and the other half-unfinished products arw on other git host websites lol
-
Coffee mostly but since i get free gFuel from work, sometimes gFuel
-
@HelloUglyWorld code-wise sure but someone had to design horse balls, basically had horse balls on their screen, for a couple hours.
-
Totally true, personally used both phones never had any issues with either and if i ever needed could totally swap back to iOS on the fly.
Really for me it's the cost, the iPhone 5 I had for many years did it's job quite well.
Xcode though is another story lol. -
@Root I enjoyed their back to the future games, one of their very earlier games. Sure I don't appreciate what they did to the devs, but they were known for their story (only played the back to the future game but I heard the walking dead game was good) something I don't management had too much of a part of.
-
@Hallelouia you should try path of exile!
-
@gsn16 my pc is slow (work at home and gpu is low end for vr) and i always will write the most efficient code possible, tomeit wouldnt matter if I had a more up to date cpu and gpu to help compile the game scenes when doing a build, but the break I get lets me get a coffee, hit the punching bag or just some form of break while I wait.
Might be different to some people though -
@sladuled also sounds like horrible abomination is the opening band lol
