Why broken stuff is allowed through the door?
My Ubuntu, my Bluetooth headsets, Jira, my latest Google pixel, eCommerce shop where I purchase stuff everything lately seem to be full of bugs.
It seems like nobody cares about the quality of software pushed to production. Everyone is so quick to push those tickets into "released".
Fuck you, managers, shareholders, scrum masters, seniors who push developers to do stuff quickly rather than correctly.3 -
Is it done yet?
Stop micromanaging! We are providing updates every morning, what difference does it make to ask for the update in the evening?!? Don't think no one can see that all you are asking is "is it done yet?"
Like a small child who does not understand the concepts of travel yet, you won't understand why "such a small change" takes so long. It's because we are scooping all the crap, patched by assholes who cared only to please you and did not had the courage to say no to your pressure and do things smart way.
If you think it is necessary to keep reminding everyone to do their job - then you you do not belong in IT.3 -
Code is poetry. Customer support is rap battle
You caps locking, hell knows what trying to compensate, little arrogant person who volunteers in Wordpress plugin review team, - learn some manners how to communicate with fellow human beings.
If you don't have patience for help - quit what you are doing and spend the rest of your life not dealing with people.
At least be professional enough to have email signature, and not look like some teenager wrote us back in a bus stop.
I hope your emails gave you confidence to keep such manners in real life and someone punches you in the face this Friday.1 -
the Death Valley of PR approval
I have almost 3 years of work experience in programming professionally. Currently this is my second company. Previous company I worked for was very loose regarding clean code, code readability, tests etc. It was their way of doing things fast, making working changes quickly was the most important thing due to its business. Now I work in company where I spend a lot of time in some limbo when my code works and my code is merged. It sucks, I make all kinds of mistakes which would be tolerable in my previous workplace, but now it keeps me from releasing code. I now the way I do things now is the right way and it will result in me growing as a specialist, but it is very frustrating and damages my self esteem. I hope it will pass one day.7 -
Today I feel I made it
So today was my second day in new job. I am very happy because it is great improvement in all imaginable areas from my previous one. I feel treated better, colleagues seem to be more mature and friendly, I finally work again in English- speaking environment and etc. etc. i could go on and on..I ranted here couple of times when things got rough and it helped. It is very important during those desperate moments to see other perspectives and this app helped me tremendously! If YOU are reading this now and you are going through s****y times - just hold on and don’t give up on yourself, if I made it - you can make it too!
P.S. it’s not like I am feeling like a best programmer in the world or I am paid a lot, but sometimes you get the feeling that you are in a right place and right time, doing right things.2 -
Difference between && and || - 1,7K damages
So last Friday we released a my mistake, which resulted in 1,7 K losses for the company. I feel like total idiot, because I messed up if’s and instead && used ||. Testing did not noticed, pull req was approved, nobody noticed it for four days. But that’s because of complex nature of the function and it’s application, but in the end - it was me who put it there. How do you cope with that? I am leaving next week for a better position in another company and it totally messed things up in my head.
Our company makes 70k in revenue so I doubt it’s gonna put a big dent in finances but I feel completely hopeless and like shit.13 -
Digging tunnels with spoons
So I am a junior full stack dev in biggest e-shop in our region and they have a bad reputation among devs. I knew it, but no one hired me except them because of my lack of experience and skills. But for heaven’s sake - they issue 15 euro keyboard, 8 euro mouse and piece of crap Lenovo v330(i7 but I hate that it’s made of styrofoam). Tell me - am I too spoiled or is is really a disgrace to give someone a cheapest tools available?25
