Finally.... After 3.5 months of serious job searching... I start a new job on Monday.
Even a few months ago , finding a new gig in mobile development was very fast - 9 calendar days from initial search to sitting in a new desk was my personal record. But a couple of weeks was pretty typical
What happened? Was there a huge influx of mobile devs? More H1-b visa holders? The competition seems like there are far more developers
Anyway, happy to be sitting in a new desk on Monday2
Again with the fucking idiot recruiters...
Wasted several hours in interviews only to find a significant travel requirement that I can't do. Wouldn't have gone beyond the initial email because a fuckwad recruiter didn't think to ask all the questions recruiters should.
Are recruiters just 'developers' who didn't have the smarts to develop code and so settled for technical recruiting? They sure seem stupid sometimes6
Banks. Fuck 'em. Worst pay of any industry
Wanted : 6± years native Android experience, senior developer
Pay: $45-48 / hour
I made $50/hour on 2013 and my rates have gone up linearly since.
This earns a big ass WTF from me for BBVA Compass bank3
Native Android Java/Kotlin I got covered but I need to go multi platform mobile. Your choice, why and why not?...
- React native
- Adobe Air
Big fucking rant....
3 employers, 3 sets of phone and in person interviews.
Guess how many provided even a scrap of feedback why they passed and did not hire me. I always ask at the end of the interview if I can address anything left out, if they have any concerns, etc.... Everything is fine, no concerns, we'll be in touch...
Except just to say no, but not why
What the fuck? Is this this just another form of ghosting? I don't get it - they spend hours interviewing. Mother fuckers can't even give 2 minutes to write a fucking reply email with a reason?
Fucking recruiters.... Let's waste a bunch of fucking time by telling me all about a company I've already talked to. Stop playing stupid ass cloak dagger games of "I'd tell you my client but it's a secret... You might go it alone"
Fucking recruiters. I get an email followed immediately by a phone call. Ffs can I at least have a little time to read your damn email and THEN call if I'm interested.
Fuck - have some respect that we might be working3
What would you do? Finished a mobile app project for a contract. Normally, I'd be off looking for another app project to work on, but the company I'm at asked me to write documents for an unrelated project. I hate writing docs, but I am billing $80/hr
Not near enough info to do much of any documentation , so waiting on answers. In the meanwhile, my email and phone are blowing up from recruiters looking for mobile app devs.
I can either work with recruiters to find a job I love or spend time muddling through creating documentation with little or no info.
What would you do? Collect a paycheck for shit you hate doing? Or just spend the time looking for something you do like to do?1
After inputting all of the defect info into the bug tracking tool, QA writes a quick summary of their findings and goes home.
Love explaining to mgmt why developers could not fix bugs because they had no access to the bug tracking software.
1 day.... X number of bugs... 0 progress
