It’s time.

FUCK YOU FRONTEND DEVELOPERS!!!

What the FUCK is wrong with you!?

Could you please STOP creating ”innovate” user interfaces….

Just FUCKING STOP!!!!!

Web after web after web and I can see 100 different fucking date pickers. I mean. WHAT-THE-FUCK!!!

And the menus. GIVE US A FUCKING CLEAR UNDERSTANDING WHERE THE FUCK I AM.

And clicking back SHOULD FUCKING WORK YOU RETARDS!!!

YOU IMBECILS!

And remember the scrolling position. WHAT THE FUCK!? I did that shit

YOU FUCKERS!!!

It is just… a sad, sad place. I wish the old web was back. Super quick. Simple. Clear.

I get it. It is better now but IT IS NO EXCUSE TO JUST SKIP THE FUNDAMENTALS!!! You bastards!!!

AND WHY THE FUCK THE LARGE IMAGES!? You should have solved this by now!!! Fucking MB!? Are you serious? Did your mother not love you enough?

Oh man that felt good…

Haha web development peasants fighting a civil war 😂
  • 2
@aviophile Why dont u go to ur superior non web dev platform then ?
  • 6
    And one more thing.

    Seriously.

    WHAT-THE-FUCK!

If you have this fucking rectangular fucking thing that you are soooooo proud of (”i made some awesome gradients maaaaan” and the shadow when you hover, maaan, i am sooo good…”). Make it fucking clear where I should click. Click/tap outside of the image inside it. Don’t force me to click the text link inside the thing! Retards! It’s clear that I want to go there!!! Fuckers!!! It’s

    2023!!!

    For crying out loud….

    Sigh

I get high blood pressure of these perverted people…

”Oh look maaan, I made a nice animation and I spent only two hours on it…”

    Fuckers…

@Sid2006 this shit again? I don’t like Linux but I still use linux servers indirectly. Criticising something sometimes mean wanting that thing to be better. But some web devs never admit current state is awful and go for ad hominem!
  • 1
may i suggest a framework for that
  • 1
@ostream hah. the web devs are getting heated now
  • 0
    @ostream thx for da explanation
  • 9
You realize that we don’t give a fuck and we follow design specs made by a guess what… designer right ?

If the designer tells us to add a flying pig that spews lasers from his butt we have to do it .
  • 4
That's why I almost only worked at software applications like warehouse management, administration. Every time a custom date picker.. Those sites must be expensive. I wish we could go back to old web too. The new web seems not to be created by real programmers. Anyway *laughs in backend*

@Draedus In my humble opinion no, if you disagree or think something is a stupid idea, question it.

Because if you do not understand why they want this stupid thing, how are you ever going to be sure your delivering what they really wanter and that its not just a misunderstanding?

And yes, to often “unique” is touted as good just because its unique, but if users struggle to find their way its most definitely bad.

And I tell everyone I work with to always challenge anything they do not understand or that they disagree on, sure if they persist, by all means do it, but if things go bad you at least did try.

@Voxera You clearly didn't work with "creative gurus & designers" and your organization values you as a developer.

In my case it's no appliable. Had tons of emails, discussion where I clearly stated that transitions and animations should be used only to support the interface and overly using it will clearly cause thousand of issues from ovearheating the device to annoying the user + other accesibility issues that can't be easily overcome.

And here I am developing cssdesignawards ( fucking hate that so much ) type of website where every little thing is animated, creating weird scrolling effects because the designer likes it and pulling my hair off to make it accesible because guess what, pinning an element and animating it on scroll doesn't come with accesibility by default.

So in the end I stopped giving a fuck about the product and I started to create whatever shit they spewed.
  • 2
@Voxera yeah tbh it is better to fight back and do only best practices, but that’s a sure way to cause friction and eventually be the first one on the chopping block

As a FED - I agree fully. I only wish I had a choice in the matter and was not told to “just do the work”
  • 3
I am a frontend developer too, you know. I love CSS. Stop calling _all_ frontend developers names because you encountered a crook or two.
  • 3
As for the "huge images" issue, i.e. downscaled in the browser - well yeah, understanding that problem requires the dev to realise that shit is transferred over a network, and also what a file even is.

You clearly can't expect that much knowledge from the average web dev.

    i hate frontend 👎

@Fast-Nop its not just web dev, seen the same among fullstack and backend its just that it is often easier for a bad dev to get away with it in frontend, or as a consultant (HPC), which then reflects bad on all web devs.

But there is enough stories about the “HPC” or senior developer that is untouchable due to company politics to prove that the problem exists on all levels.

But with the right frontend and designers you can get something that is like magic :)

@kiki it-is-a-rant! I love frontend devs! We need you and we love you! ♥️
  • 2
I am FED and i didn't found myself in this rant! I totally agree on all the points.

I also agree that designers make weird decisions but I call them out for their shit and demand that they explain why this weird shit is better for the end users instead of the classic, straight forward solution.

Sometimes they make a good point and I agree with the new weird thing, but when they don't then I politely state that design is also engineering the fucking UI to be usable and functional, not just pretty and if they want to do that pretty and weird shit, they can do that in the art class or at home.

I know a dozen of those FEDs you just ranted about, heck, I had to work with some of them!

I despise frontend design where "they changed the content on the address bar just because I scrolled down" the most.

This makes horrible user experience since pressing back button on the browser makes the web page scroll up instead of sending me back to previous website.

Whoever who thought that this is a great idea, fuck you!
  • 2
@daniel-wu rant ranking: GENTLE AS A LAMB.

Those are amateur numbers. Gotta pump those numbers up.
  • 2
Fun to reqd. But the real problem are the designers. Fuck those as well!!!!
  • 0
@ostream what you twos beef anyway? I missed the fight.
  • 0
@nachocode well, these guys and girls are leaning towards arty stuff and even psychology! And that is both hard and needs to take into account both the evolution of ”the world” (typography for instance!) and the change of the business (what message are they trying to convey).

I have a lot more understanding of the role and importance of the designers. Seems like an interesting topic to investigate. And you don’t have to code.
  • 0
@daniel-wu Yes. Agreed. They should quit their jobs and start a career in farming or whatever. Fuck em! I get high pressure just thinking about that stuff! I have come across at least two webs that does that.
  • 1
@kiki I don’t. I love frontenders. I have written this numerous times. You make amazing stuff. We need you. We love you.

I made a generic remark of the system. And frontenders are an easy target.

Everything is said, not with any actual hostile intent but rather, wait for it, as a rant.
  • 1
@sideshowbob76 Only if they follow patterns and don't fuck around with the layout structure...

But unfortunately they do. Even if we have a clear design system to solve that. They still fucking do.
  • 0
@nachocode insane amount of time is spent on frontends. To no or little (valuable) use. Many times. Many many projects.

Projects take form, is planned, communicated and yada yada yada, executed… done.

    But.

It was all wrong from the beginning.

    All wrong.

The entire thing should not have been allowed to be born.

    Waste.

In global corp this is sooo common. Things just emerges. Out of thin air! Peeps just DO stuff without thinking and asking.

This is why it is so important with governance.

    I am the keymaker.

    None shall pass.

But peeps find ways around us anyway.

It is clown business all around.

    Our cyber teams are…frustrated (boiling)

One cloud? Hell, we tried for years. Now we have all clouds. Which is a good thing of course. But a curse.

All I want is to sit in silence in a forrest.

But nooooo, need to go on a fucking AIRPLANE to the US. Could have been a zoom. Hell, email correspondance would have done it. Sometimes, I think that they WANT to travel…
