haraldfw298yMint and debian. But when I get around to it I'm switching to debian on the mint machine too, though.

I am coding on osx for 2 years now and tbh, for me personally, there isn't a real difference between Linux and osx. Both are imo better than windows for coding.
-
zaturek1378yUbuntu Mate. Most of distros i know are too hard for my weak notebook :D but i'll use this even if i buy a new one.

I use Debian for the biggest part of coding at work. Use OS X for my own projects. I agree that they are similar enough to be useful but both have their pros and cons. I built touchscreen interface in python and tested across all three OS. Win and OS X was basically plug and play while Ubuntu required me to take down X which was a bit much at the time. Otherwise it's a joy since most of the python libraries I use are already installed. On OS X I never actually had the stamina to install Python Imaging Library since it was a hassle.
-
@Elkstorm no a Python pro here and not sure if it helps but maybe homebrew can get you out there.
-
@SirWindfield Thanks. Worth a shot even if that particular project is done. (Ended up compiling .exe with py2exe since the chosen hardware only let us use the touch interface if we used the integrated computer with some old Win XP embedded and it wasnt possible to install pygame, PIL etc in those)

@erasmuswill I tried a Gentoo install years ago. Couldn't get it to boot for the life of me. I think the grub package was broken or something, haven't touched it since.
-
haha it's a bitch to get up. once it's going it runs quite well though. after using Gentoo for some time I tried insv2.q@sheeponmet 1 from source on mint 17.3 :O it's a world of shit @sheeponmeth

@aryan No not a game (even if I did a small one for fun). It was a digital signage thing for publishing videos made by kids from a school at the local library. I did a working Poc and handed it to a hired programmer since I was handling four projects at the same time.

L33tCh4108yDebian here with Gnome 3. Been through a whole bunch over the years but always end up going back to Debian.
-
Mind if I ask what exactly the difference between Ubuntu and Debian is (expect th ui)?
-
Geezus148y@SirWindfield it's subjective. I dislike it for a number of reasons and prefer Gnome 3. But that's my opinion and many will disagree.

was archlinux with cinnamon until I updated and acpi errors started making it unusable. stuck with windows 10 at the moment with a full screen virtualbox vm with arch, probably going to check again with a usb drive if it's fixed sometime this week
-
@jckimble The 4.7.1 kernel just got released into the Arch repo, so I'm sure you'll be fine.
-
@enchance I kind wnat to try another distribution. Nothing to say about ubuntu but, ubuntu is very similar to debian so why not?
