I was extensively using this avatar builder URL scheme to represent users on the background/chromakey I want and, conversely, remove some decorations (transform chair into soft seat and TV into laptop).

@DreEleven There's at least one alternative app that I believe solves some issues that users have been having, but that's still a devRant client.

I've seen a few posts here and there about where people might go once this thing finally kicks the bucket. I think they've resulted in some challenges to build a replacement and there might be a Matrix server? I've really been meaning to find out.

I think the consensus is that dR should just be made open source so that those who are still here can maintain and improve it.

@DamoMac that other devrant client is skyrant. It's in android store. It's made by @joewilliams007. It's very nice. For IOS you have joyrant by @Lensflare

@retoor Alternative devrant clients are not allowed on in the official stores. So if skyrant is in the google play store, does it mean that nobody cares and I can put joyrant into the apple app store as well (instead of having it only available via testflight)?

There's only one problem - all devrant clients are owned by Germans. They're becoming to powerful. Is @SoldierOfCode still allowed to use the app?

@Lensflare i uploaded it when devRant disappeared from app stores. I don't think anyone cares about it. Whats the difference between having it available as apk on a website to having it in googles website ahem ahem playstore.

@netikras I don't have chatGPT by lack of common Dutch payment methods. Prefer not to have credit card. Same for Microsoft / Google products for years. They just don't care to implement common payment methods. How rich can you be. Epic fail in my eyes.

@netikras I meant, when I used PayPal to pay for Microsoft / Google, it required a card. I don't have a card. So I can't use the PayPal option. We use a system called iDeal to raise balance

@joewilliams007 No updates since months. I also gave up on code highlighting because the utf8 text ranges from the API are wrong.

Maybe I will add the image generation feature which will be available in iOS 18.

@retoor i did look for existing solutions. they didnt work for me. or didnt allow me to format it in normal text. Maybe i didnt look deep enough. Sounds like a fun task even so though:)

@retoor yes, I wanted to use the system functionality but that would interfere with the other highlighting of mentions and links because of the mentioned wrong ranges.

@joewilliams007 highlighting is maybe the only feature I really miss about dr that it should have

@joewilliams007 it is hard to explain the exact problem but it uses a workaround for the wrong ranges and this doesn’t play nice with the code that would be needed for inserting highlighting info in the correct places.

With wrong ranges I mean that the ranges are based on a system where complex utf8 characters are counted as >1 length. JS, Java and Kotlin do this the same wrong way. Swift does it the right way when we use modern SDKs. I could fall back to old sdk which did it wrong, but it would be incompatible with the modern SwiftUI stack.
