Going on holiday is just a pain in the arse.

Only because of the airport ceremonies.

No airport involved. It's just a bunch of stress and admin and having to pay for the privilege.

My idea of a holiday would be spending a week in the shed making something, with nobody breaking my balls.

I can figure out stuff you can do for free. You'll feel like you didn't even have a vacation.

Don't go then fellow desk slave, stay in your cubicle, the weather is lovely

@MammaNeedHummus It's not a cubicle. There's a nice view of the City from the 21st floor, I have shares in the company so I'm only 90% slave.

Most importantly of all, nobody's breaking my balls.

Fuck terrorists who made planes the worst thing ever. Can’t wait to have my own private jet.

Then I would avoid Amsterdam on future vacations.

    which is why I don't

people were always like, what did you do on your vacation

nothing. I did nothing. and that's the way I like it

@jestdotty you can also do nothing while laying on the beach with a cocktail in your hand.
Which is arguably the better kind of nothing.

@Lensflare Cocktails can be consumed in the comfort of your home, without getting a load of sand up your chuff.

@donkulator the sand is part of the experience! 😆

Factor in all things that potentially go wrong (missing flight connection, weather conditions, luggage stayed at departure or is stolen, different electrical sockets etc) + the prep needed to make the most out of it, including the mental headspace to dedicate to it and you start wondering whether it´s worth it

@webketje Jeebus, yeah, don't go to ANY blue state in the USA. Absolute shit holes now. Or any of the major cities. Best to do smaller towns. Though we see gangs in my small town. Cops are super busy with them too.
  • 2
@Lensflare I don't wanna see the other people at the beach

the cocktail has to be bought and I don't wanna talk to people

and presumably you flew somewhere and had to get a hotel and all of that involves people, not just any people, but people specifically trying to harass you, make you feel uncomfortable, and upcharge you

it sounds like the worst experience ever

I rather just go somewhere random and crawl around some rocks beside water, bring a picnic and fuck off not seeing a single human being. maybe get a tan fully nude because nobody is around. see what the stars look like outside a city

@jestdotty fair enough. But this is far away from "doing nothing".
What I wanted to say is that if you want to do nothing anyways, the beach is a better place to do so. Unless you have social anxiety or something.

I'm not a big fan of those kinda of vacations either. There's a start and an end and you gotta cram everything between those days. Years ago I just quit my job and lived in hostels / with friends for about 11 months traveling:

I made another attempt back in 2017:

but it didn't really go as well:

I think I'm done with those types of sabbaticals now that I'm a home owner, but I'm still glad I attempted them.
