Got my new mechanical (gaming) keyboard. I don't play games though.

@irene product description page mentions that it is. I don't know if there is any difference either. This thing is easy.

Same here haha, I've got the Razer ornata but I don't game :P

Fuck, i want a qwerty keyboard ._. I hate that all the different brackets are alt+some letter on qwertz

@irene I thought the types of switches used in the keyboard determined whether it was better suited for gaming over typing?

Not that it makes a difference to most normal people, but die hards could argue it's nothing to do with the keyboard layout at all and all about the switches

@sharktits I've solved that by just swapping to an English keyboard layout when coding. The keyboard itself is Swedish. It's taken a little getting used to where all the symbols and stuff are, but it's not too bad.

@irene correct me if I'm wrong. I've been watching esports for years. StarCraft pros normally use 87 key with no print on it. RGB keyboard is definitely not for pro gamers

    So pretty!

@irene red is definitely not suitable for typing. Blue is too loud for small office. 🤦‍♂️
  • 2
    @sunfishcc what? I'm really confused.
  • 2
@sunfishcc I got reds and they work just fine for typing. Got browns at work amd while they have a slightly different feel I can't really say that I'm typing better on one or the other

@Kimmax @emyu10 the story is that when I got my job, I was so happy, so I ordered a blue switch immediately and paid extra for next day shipping. 2 days later, my boss joking about the keyboard was louder than my voice. I know he was serious. So I bought another red switch. Later, my colleague complains about I made too many typos. Then I became "that keyboard guy" forever 😢

There's a image for all the fallen heros 😢
  • 1
@irene I might be too picky, but it's easier to make typos when switching between these two switches

I got the same keyboard 2 weeks ago and so far it is awesome

    I use a Logitech G810.
but I don't believe in "gaming perhiperals"
I only believe in: "I like how it feels/sounds"

I use a Cherry Stream 3.0 in the office and a Medion KB 9908 at home.

Imo you don't need a Keyboard designed for "gaming". Any keyboard with non-flat keys does the job for me, membrane or mechanical.

    Now buy vi keycaps ;p

Does it sound like a typewriter?
    My Razer Blackwidow Chroma feels great to type on but it's so F U C K I N G L O U D.

    @linuxxx They got you :(
Ornata is not even mechanical 😭

@kwilliams it has nice clicky sounds. I like it.

@kwilliams Look up some buckling spring key switches if you want to hear them BREAK THE SOUND BARRIER

@Blake Semi-mechanical is what a gamer friend told me hmmm

@irene I think red/blue switches and tactile feel for WASD, maybe a couple macro buttons would qualify as a gaming board. I use a k65 lux and it's great for gaming, especially since the 10keyless nature means my mouse is closer to the board / in a more natural wrist position

@linuxxx That’s how razer markets them, a “mechanical membrane keyboard” and then they charge the same price as the full mechanical ones. After trying one though, I can see how the tactile clicking mechanism that they put in them could make it feel more mechanical than it really is

@irene Oh that one is actually very simple for me. I prefer the haptic feedback. With non-flat buttons i can sense faster and more precise if i have actually pushed a button since the distance my finger has to push down is minimally larger. Also the larger / deeper gaps between the keys make it easier to navigate the keyboard with the fingertips.

@garuna I recently bought it from AliExpress, thinking I will use it for some long time. It's not expensive on AliExpress. ;)

Here is the link to buy it. And this should be the final comment on this thread.

    Mine's a Steelseries 6Gv2.
Extremely durable. You can hit it with your head or another body part as much as you want. Quite useful when you have a wife and 2 kids 😁
It comes with Cherry Black switches. Those need a bit to much pressure to my taste.

@ganjaman I got to Germany a year and a half ago and 10 minutes in the German layout made me go straight to IT in my company to get a US layout keyboard. No matter how old or shitty. German layout is definitely not for programming

Am kinda tempted by the Razer Blackwidow Lite for work.
