For Java development, what IDE do you prefer and why (if there is reason)?

    Intellij. It's actually almost perfect with just a lil theming but there are also endless plugins and customizations. I started using it when Android Studio was released and Google had everyone transition from Eclipse. Nowadays, Id recommend any Jetbrains product

    I've been using eclipse for years and I'm so freaking done with it! I'm just to lazy to make the transition to intellij for my current projects.

    Use intellij!

    @Olverine thanks for this tip! I could definitely see eclipse getting old, I'll keep this in mind when I dive back into Java

    <s>C# is Microsoft's failure</s>

    I use IntelliJ, i used to use eclipse. IntelliJ has annoying artifact bs but the IDE is pretty cool. The compiling system is just utter shite, that's about it

    @Lycocain ehm no it's not.

    Using Rider for .net, best of both worlds :)
    For java I would use intellij.

    IntelliJ products is inferior for Java and Kotlin (recommend you to test Kotlin out)

    I use eclipse, because like 4 plugins and a few settings and its perfect. Runs a lot faster than idea.

    Is there ever any other IDE for Java apart from IntelliJ? The last time i used Eclipse i wasted hours trying to resolve dependencies with jar files!

    I have to use eclipse and it's not that great (anymore). But some extensions are only available for eclipse...
    I've never used it but seeing that it is by jetbrains I think intellij should be great.

    Using anything but Jetbrain products is just being stubborn.

    @sharktits I don't remember exactly what the project was but it had something to do with maven dependencies not working and i had to get raw jar files and put them on PATH. that was the worst nightmare with eclipse and since then i have never looked at it again.
