Acer lappy
Support is crappy
Return it to the store
Don't be their little... friend -
If the hardware isn't supported you're not going to get far nope haha. But I wouldn't blame that on the OS (whatever os that is)
-
C0D4669027y@linuxxx if I can get wifi working, I’ll be fine enough.
I can dig the depths of the internet to find ways to get everything else in a somewhat working state. -
C0D4669027yOk I give up.
Finally installed, reboots, attempts to kick off Mate and freezes.
Reboots, forces TTY, gets to login (can’t actually type) before it freezes
Reboots, forces tty, freezes, casing heats up to melting point 😞
Turns off
Removes HDD
Puts Windows HDD back
Boots
Logs in
Well fuck Linux, I atleast tried -
C0D4669027y@linuxxx hahaha that too.
Fuck Linux, Fuck Acer and Fuck me not getting it to work 😢
In other news, I guess I’ll research my next laptop for decent Linux support 😇 -
@C0D4 Although its old now, I can recommend the Lenovo G70!
Have been using this baby for four years now and it has awesome Linux support :D -

@C0D4 ah you're not alone, man. I get hit by this kind of shit all the time too.
Fuck you incompatible hardware, indeed. -
C0D4669027y@hugh-mungus how does that make linux better then apple?
Works on 1 fucking brand only? -
@hugh-mungus I've had issues with my T60 and its ATI gpu.
@C0D4 It works if the company or the community makes it work, or if it already works because it's similar enough to other products that work. -
I'm going to be honest, this is probably either your laptops fault or yours. Try a USB with Ubuntu's image on it (download ISO, download Rufus USB image tool, and select all the options you need (ISO location, USB to image, etc.). Then when it's done boot into BIOS then boot from USB.
-
@C0D4 I think you just have one of the rare-unsupported laptops. I've installed Linux without issues on so many laptops and brands, have had one laptop which didn't support shit out of like 20+ devices.
