What are the next technologies you want to specialize in?

I don't wanna say "specialize" since I'm much more of a jack of all trades kinda person, but I'm really interested in building backends in something that isn't node.js.

    I was considering C++.

@Ranchonyx Nice, C++ sounds good as it comes from the stable language C.

I'm more ends justify the means kind of person

which I hear is bad for some reason?

@jestdotty It could be interpreted as bad for possibly being an unsafe choice.

    Weapons of mass destruction

C:: - it is a variant of C++ that takes a bottoms up approach to mammary safety.

Jank Script - a version of Javascript that is basically just a fork of javascript.

Karen Toolkit - A management tool that generates micromanagement tickets for junior devs. Makes periodic demands to see your senior dev.

    Agriculture and forestry

although not sure about it.. I really like being in nature. Mastering those areas would most likely kill the enjoyment

@CaptainRant this is why I'm encased in rust

@jestdotty I keep hearing mixed thoughts about Rust. What are yours? It seems like a frustrating language. lol

    @CaptainRant yes

I didn't like c/c++ though also job posts for rust are 200k+ salary

    don't mind if I do

    so I don't mind

I think the community is absolute garbage though but I'm hoping they'll find some way to recover. that's the part I'm worried about

otherwise, I needed a fast more base-level language for some things I wanna build down the line. as much as I loved JavaScript the performance for intricate things is gonna be garbage and I needed lower level stuff under my belt. I don't regret it and despite it being difficult... well the difficulty and sheer retardation of everything in rust is like paramount job security honestly. even the AIs struggle with rust over everything else

so I think it's basically an optimal investment

other than that the community might tank everything into the shitter with their politics and bad culture. but if that happens I keep hearing about rust forks so the mental exercises may not go to waste. I would assume other languages would borrow from r

@jestdotty Probably 200k+ because they make you go nuts.

No tv no beer make Homer go crazy! Don't mind if I do!

This is exactly how work makes me feel daily.

And a garbage community as well? Noooo thank you.

I understand you need lower level stuff.

You know when a language is cunt when even A.I. struggles with it.

As long as you have learned important things from it.

@CaptainRant hehehe I don't mind the pain in this sense

    ---

your state reminds me back when I was working with a manager I didn't like. she kept putting us all in a "war room" unnecessarily, and all the socializing was killing me

HR noticed me smiling, laughing, and joking a lot, and said how great it was that I was "so much happier". it was not me being happy. it was me going crazy. I never did correct her view. I was utterly flabbergasted that she misread it and didn't reply fast enough

I was so miserable it was my only way to stay sane. and they thought it was a good thing. finally I wasn't... deadpan. but deadpan was actually my happy place 😭

@jestdotty Yes, our management does something similar and it's very annoying.

It's not a surprise to me they don't understand you.

I'm deadpan as well now for the same reasons. How can one stay motivated in a toxic environment? lol

@CaptainRant idk my story didn't end well

I can be motivated fine. but it actually made me wanna kill myself and I fully logically for 3 months walked around being in my head like "but killing myself is the most logical conclusion to this"

then 3 months in I realized I could just quit the job. made me feel quite stupid that that somehow didn't occur to me THAT WHOLE TIME

and now I have PTSD and haven't worked since and that was like 8 years ago. I instead decided to literally do finance and I haven't died yet and also I would not suggest this to anyone. probably irrationally playing life on ultra hard mode
