@Hubot-0x58 I agree that being pessimistic is overall better for decision-making since erring in the side of caution is good for survival and all that, but it's also a recipe for depression and stagnation.

I believe that if you're truly rational and clear-thinking (by human standards at least) you're capable of both overestimating and underestimating your chances of success; not leaning too heavily one way or the other.

My point was that both extremes are destructive. I hoped that pointing out the irrationality inherent in pessimism would provoke some devs to take a closer look at their beliefs (since many value rational thinking highly and many frustrations stem from other people not being too good at using their brains).

Edit: I haven't met an overly pessimistic fellow who didn't lose touch with facts.
