Even tho the "fuck fuck [...]" tag is slowly becoming annoying, the answer is it depends on you.
If I were to recommend the drone variation to you, you would only focus on the drone and not on the car.
Therefore I am telling you that both are cool projects and that you should do both. -
@-ANGRY-CLIENT- i would love to but my budget and time only allows for an OR, not an AND. i want to get other people's opinions, before i make a choice for myself. your preference would be greatly appreciated.

The drone is going to be easier from a logistic point of view and also bang for buck. Testing will be easier too and there’s a tonne of resources out there for this kind of shit.
A self driving kart will need a fair bit of resources in terms of cameras, fabricated steering rack, throttle and brake control servos, and navigation. Also testing will need to be done in a safe area to save damage to yourself and others( ever tried to stop a machine at full throttle?)
Transporting it to and from a safe place will be another thing.
Will you want it to navigate on the road or in a closed course with obstacle avoidance..
The kart will feel like a great achievement but will be a pain in the ass on limited funds.
Get the drone cranking first and then perhaps move onto the kart.. but do post status updates here whatever you choose :)
