So I just learned that normal HTML has nothing to do with XML

    Both are subsets of SGML (except for HTML5), tho HTML wasn't 100% valid SGML until HTML4.

    So both are valid SGML, but HTML4 is not valid XML.

    In HTML5 this is unfortunately true. But I try to write valid XHTML. In this case it is also valid XML, and much more readable.

    It has to do in the sense that both are subsets of SGML, but not much more.

    The same but yet not the same.
