Dear Web Developers,
I say this on behalf of most of the people(I think) that nobody at any want of life wants something to play automatically on a website. Seriously, I would rather you use my browser to mine cryptocurrencies than use my speakers.

People STILL do that? Oh boy

Luckily most browsers disable autoplay nowadays.

But I assume, some stupid frontend guy right now tries to find his way around that.

    Auto play bad.
I hate it. I won't subject my users to it.

@ddephor i bet that client thinks that is a great idea to do and demands it like a spoiled child

@possum Yeah just recently my college web development team decided to add a robotic voice that reads the description automatically when the page loads.
  • 3
Yeah, I seriously doubt any web dev does that voluntarily. Product managers and directors and VPs make nonsense like that happen.

@ddephor There should be a book titled 'Ethics of Web Development'

Most of the time it's not us but the business requirements.

Louder for the people in the back!

We do this to feel like we have a semblance of control in our lives.

j/k I hate this shit too.

Well, YouTube videos do autoplay. I think it would be annoying to have that extra click once you are on the right page.

But otherwise, I totally agree and hope that there is still some special place reserved in hell for these developers

@StopMotionCuber Don't hate the player, hate the game.

It is not the devs,it is the management that wants money and SEO shits

    @taigrr Wow, this is great!

@Nanos I don't mean the "autoplay" feature but the fact, that a video starts playing as soon as you click the link, you do not need to make an additional click to make the video start playing

This happens way too often on far too many sites. I'm still looking for a consistent solution to this cruel fuckery. The in-browser blocking doesn't do shit. Videos still pop up all over the web and still autlplay, even with manual blocks.

I'm a web dev myself, and am still extremely irritated by it. Honestly, anyone who deliberately creates asshole designs like this will have a special place in hell reserved for them.
