The feeling when HR says happy birthday to a colleague in general slack chat on my birthday while his birthday was two days before on a Saturday. And the next day say happy birthday to two other colleagues

I once said Happy Birthday in a discord server with friends at like 10 PM and they asked whose bday it was... (I drop some hints throughout the two weeks before)

I just had a notification on my phone. Not that I expected anything but I was still let down. It was an email from steam confirming my purchase... Thanks steam for the gift... That I bought myself

Why do you give a shit, it's a day like any other.

Same goes with holidays like Christmas, if the only day you gift somebody something is for Christmas out of "necessity" you're up deep shit.

@JoshBent I don't really care normally, I do care if everyone is giving a treatment and I am being forgotten. I haven't celebrated my birthday since I was 10 because I didn't want to. But if every colleague gets cake and I am being forgotten that feels a bit unfair.

As far as I'm concerned you're not an adult till you can legally drink.

Like 40% of the people I know remembered mine last week and for those that didn’t I either blasted them by text or phone call to lose my number ✌️

@JoshBent For the most part I don't care a lot. However, it seems that I have about 20 notifications from every app ever - even LinkedIn - when someone's birthday comes up. So, it's not like people have to actually remember. At least acknowledging your immediate family's is generally expected politeness for most, and if HR starts acknowledging birthdays, they should probably just make a monthly list of everyone's, as it becomes more obvious that you're forgotten while everyone else is not.

In my case, a parade of messes resulted in me being in various emergency health tests and out of work for a week, as well as ruining my free long weekend (labor day off work is the best 'bday present' that is there even if nobody remembers) but that's clearly not the usual. It was more a response to the original post - I DON'T expect people to remember anymore... but it's nice if the people around you will at least go along if you want to do anything (or not) for the day & nothing implodes.

I think roughly generally no one gives a fuck about anyone else nowadays, so don't feel too bad about it.

@M1sf3t lot of times when people ask me my age, I forget it or get it roughly right, I don't care about it, nor should anybody else - that is older than 21.

@Codex404 why do you need recognition just because you were born? get recognition for actual achievements, not dogshit like that.

@M1sf3t there's arbitrary milestones you can set or are set of course, yet still not really something to get recognition for nor makes it more than just another regular day.
