    Maybe you need to install a specific driver first. Depending on the manufacturer and model you might have luck and get a native Linux version from their website.

    Or you could try installing system-config-printer. It's a more generic graphical tool for managing printers and it already has an (incomplete) list of printer drivers it can install.

    Which printer manufacturer?

    @sbiewald canon mg2570s

    @ajay06 according to the canon website that model is "no longer supported" on Linux, aka they don't care. I don't know if it's possible to get printers to run with some generic driver, I usually try to stay far away from printers as much as I can.

    @deadlyRants is that impossible to run printer with Linux . I mean my Linux OS(elementary os)?

    @ajay06 I don't know, but it's definitely not easy and would require trying out different drivers, I think.

    If your printer had a network interface, this setup would be much easier, as the protocol is standardized.

    What might work: Install CUPS (Linux printing server) on your local machine, and install the correct PPD file (you can find it online).

    Also, maybe you find a universal driver for your printer (series), maybe in a PPA (third party repository), but it might need additional work.
    You can follow any guide for Ubuntu, as ElemenatryOS = Ubuntu with a different desktop manager.

    I only used HP printers, where it is a bit easier ;).

    So dR is now a troubleshooting site…

    So this is a USB printer? Connect it, make sure it is on, then run lsusb in a terminal, and post the output.

    If the printer is listed, check whether CUPS is installed by browsing to localhost:631. If that does not work, consult the Elementary OS documentation on how to install printing support.

    Which version of Elementary OS is this?

    I ask because while most modern Linux versions will automatically detect and install the correct printer driver, I remember in previous versions of Debian I had to manually install the drivers provided by Canon…

    I recently had problems using my printer. Noah doesn't understand this at all, so I had to ask for help. Thanks to experts in this field, I found out why epson printer stopped working https://howly.com/chats/... It's great that I can ask questions of any nature and get an answer to it.
