    Statistically it is

    W3 Schools runs a list of OS stats by month. Win NT, XP, and Vista, and Chrome OS are the only OSes lower than ALL of Linux:

    I'm not sure where/how they pull data (I'm too lazy to look into that).

    @fyroc what about servers?

    @BesniRakun even so. Most large companies and government runs Windows Servers.

    @fyroc Well then I am the stupid one :) ty for info

    @BesniRakun so the W3 schools is only for browsers, and leaves off a number of obviously lowers ranking OS's (FreeBSD and other BSD derivatives come to mind).

    What is interesting is that measurements of device shipments clearly indicate that Android (a Linux derived kernel) dominates at 54%, iOS/OS X is next at 12.4 percent, followed by Windows at 11.7% (this is all according to the Wikipedia article "usage share of operating systems", the source for this is Gartner Inc., a consumer research firm)

    Now, what a lot of discussions about consumer OS's conveniently leave out is consumers choice or preference for an OS. The OS market isn't just about individual preferences, but is also the result of software being bundled together for corporate deals and the masses that are forced to use a particular OS because that is the only thing their IT department is capable of managing.

    Basically, arguments claiming a particular OS is better because of it's market share is like claiming a Hyundai (I've never driven one, I'm sure they're lovely, just am example of a mass market vehicle) is better than a Porsche because more people drive Hyundais than Porsches.

    The question should never be about which is most widely used but which is empirically better in terms of performance, *perhaps* discounting an OS from being taken seriously because of minuscule support. (FreeBSD --sorry to pick on you-- falls under the latter category, Ubuntu clearly does not).

    Chrome OS is just linux with safety measures for stupid users...

    80% of all devices run Linux.

    @superroot Well now I'm confused 😕

    Depends the devices. Ask servers
