Got a gig as a consultant (started Monday). Got my first engagement starting next Thursday. First time I've been excited about my work in a long time. Hope it stays that way!! -
Be me, miss specifying the item in an array so a drop-down doesn't work, get fired from the project and moved to a much lesser project.
Be the other guy, fuck up the app so bad you have to roll back 3 weeks worth of work...no big deal...1 -
I want to build a home AI/assistant...Better than Zuckerberg's that the whole world could use, easily2
-
All of them...I'm a dev, I'm supposed to be planted in front of a machine, typing... Not sitting in a room talking
-
Never, ever, ever stop learning. And I don't mean sitting in a classroom overpaying for outdated information. Read blogs, news sites, community driven content. Find that thing that only a handful of people are talking about and learn it. Then do that again, and again. The second you stop learning, you'll be left behind. Does that mean you'll be unemployed, or find it impossible to do find work, no, not immediately. But if you stand still looking enough to gather some dust, you'll soon be part of the dust.

Unencrypted, plain text passwords stored in SQL, from lowest role all the way up through Admin. In the same system, they had a "backdoor" password that would log in any user...
-
Worst part of being a dev...working for a company that doesn't understand your potential. Knowing that you can do so much more than they are but being limited due to a myriad of excuses, budget, time, user base, etc.3
-
OK, I know the general consensus of StackOverflow on DevRant...but jesus h christ...do devs not debug their own shit anymore? I can't say how many times I see "I get this exception...how do I fix...hurrr durrr....". When it all comes down to it, if they just attached a debugger and looked that variables/properties, they'd see what kind of stupid shit they are doing.
-
StackOverflow should implement a feature where you can only ask a question from inside a search result page.2
-
When you can't rant about the stupid shit at work because your fucking idiot coworkers are on devRant and you can't afford to lose the job quite yet...2
-
@dfox you said there'd be sweatshirts...it's cold as fuck here...I need a sweatshirt
*Insert some witty joke about devs never making deadlines*4 -

Apparently everyone else has some sort of inanimate object they use for debugging. Am I the only dev that just using all the other voices in my head for a souding board?13 -
Not my hack but one I've seen hundreds of times:
Thread.sleep() because you don't know how to handle async calls -
So my Product Manager girlfriend just said, "I have a great idea for an app that people will really want. Can you build it for me?". She did not see the irony
-
Our guy pushing out the build of our ASP.net site:
"I got a bunch of errors, so I switched the projects .Net version, then I got different errors"...1 -
Best way to get unstuck for me is to walk away, get about 2 fingers of scotch (3 depending on the glass), drink that and wait for the Ballmer Peak.
