Dream: Lots of coding
Reality: Maintaining Excel sheets for API functions.😑

It's a start. Maybe they will have the opportunity for you to code as well. Excel VBA may also be fun for you.

I also work in VBA at work all day, then come home and do web dev with angular 2 for my own interest and so I don't feel like a sham programmer with VBA as my specialist language

You can work on a program which generate this Excel by going though the code with reflection. It will impress everyone !

Look on the bright side of things. You could be asking "Do you want fries with that?" now.

I actually got lucky to get hired by a company whose code was a mess and whose developers never lasted more than a few months on the job, I went up the ladder fairly quickly as the kept leaving

How long have you been there?

I had a work where part of it was importing a CSV into Zoho Reports after some minor modifications.
It had to be done every Tuesday.

I just wrote a small java program to read the CSV, make the changes and spit out a xls file.

What took me about 30-40 minutes of "wtf am I doing with my life" took me 40 minutes to write and 2 seconds to execute every week and a feeling of "hell yeah, gonna automate the shit out of my life" 😊😊😊
