Rant continues:
Great.. trying to revert to an older driver and now it's really broken... black screen....
My planned evening of coding, down the drain.. thank you Nvidia -
@keigezellig yeah Nvidia sucks for linux support, with everything coming with Nvidia it's getting harder to find a good desktop/laptop that supports linux unless you make it yourself
-
@jckimble devrant needs to make a dev ready laptop with linux and all drivers up to date and working. Just like apple but we can do it cheaper. Dev rant bringging dev accesories in the future, rubber ducks, linux/dev ready laptops and computers and others. All made in house. Would be cool and great!
-
@SweetHuman Good idea ! Unfortunately you are still dependent on those 'Windows only' hardware producers
-
@keigezellig fuck em. We are developers. We buy the pieces. Build the laptop. Create the drivers and update them. I don't fucking care. We make our own linux distros if needed or update app that updates what devs need when they need. Ans for windows users we can start creating mods if they can't change from windows.
-
@keigezellig yeah updates are usually when it messes up, you usually have to keep the linux kernel a version behind for Nvidia.
-
@SweetHuman but generally intel and amd graphics cards have good support unless it's a two in one card where you can switch between like bumblebee
-
@keigezellig yeah my ATI card is one, you can't switch modes in linux. pretty much the only reason I still have win 10 dual booted
-
Because of issues with black screen , switched from Ubuntu to Windows. The worst part is Windows is draining my laptop battery like hell.
-
So now my system is up-and-running. However i still have to install this bumblebee thingie since i want to switch to Intel mode, otherwise my laptop keeps sounding like an airplane that takes off...
When i look at the other stuff needed for this, the 'new' nvidia driver is also needed (the one which crashed my system in the first place..... ) -
tobbeboi7048yGlhf, just got a new Dell xps 15 and have to run on Intel grafics to get multiple screens working
-
Latest update: my system runs like a charm again :) one advantage, i got a clean system :)
