When I Googled a problem I faced, and found a YouTube video solving it, then tried to thumb 👍 it up, but YouTube said: "You can not like your own videos!"

.
I recorded it for a friend two years ago!10 -
What kind of music from video games has stuck in your head?
For me it was nearly all music from American McGee's Alice(because that OST is absolutely unique), Bumby's Office from Alice: Madness Returns, along with some other music, Crysis 2 Theme(it stuck in my head for at least a month after having beaten it), some songs from Still Life, the theme for Ori and the Blind Forest, Halo Theme(of course), and others I just cannot remember...49 -

Just noticed YouTube got inspired by porn video sites and now they are showing very short preview of video on thumbnail hover.

I find it super annoying, this trend where no one wants to write learning documentation anymore, but instead put up a bunch of demo videos and video "training courses."
I don't want to spend 5 minutes watching you do something that would take me 10 seconds to read. I can't search for terms in your video, and I can't use them as a general reference manual. I can't go at my own pace, easily keep my place between devices, enter code as you go, the list of cons goes on and on.
I would rather pay you money for a good eBook (and no, PDFs don't count), than to have the only realistic way to learn about your software be a playlist on your YouTube channel.
This, however, this...
Went to check out Ansible again, because I've heard good things lately and it's been a couple years since I've looked at it.
Took me a while to find their docs because there's almost no mention of anything on the home page except trying Tower for free.
Found the docs. The first item there is the Quick Start Video and I think, "Cool. That's a good use of video, showing off the product."
I dig out some headphones, click play:
"Ansible is a powerful" BOOM!
Enter my email to watch the video?!
Ah, forget it. Maybe I'll see you next time, Ansible.8 -
When I find a video tutorial I like,
"Hey! I might actually watch this in normal speed instead of the usual 2x".5 -
I decided to setup a little server on my local network just to make use of a 2TB harddrive I use to store videos.
Told everyone in the house I planned to grow the library over time and that they could access it all in a browser using my system name. It's become quite a fun venture and my video library is shaping up nicely.
Using nginx on a Dell XPS 17 with Ubuntu 16.04 to host a server that just auto indexes a shared directory on my external 2TB harddrive. Kind of an embarrassing rig, but it's just a hobby activity and I do plan to upgrade shit later.
The real fun has been getting to understand a bit more about video files. They used to be magic to me, as complex as their file extension. Now I run a script on all of my torrents which checks the video and audio codecs, converting them if they aren't supported by Chrome's and Firefox's web players, and outputting mp4s using ffmpeg. I feel like I have this stuff down fairly well now. Becoming more and more automated.
Next step is to port forward so I can access it from anywhere, but we'll see about that later down the line.22 -

I hate this trend of making a video out of every bit of information or tutorial you can find. Videos are slow, I cannot properly skip forward to the part I need and the people making these videos are hellbent on not editing out their mistakes to "be more genuine" or something fucking stupid like that.
I want some good old text-based guides. I want docs, READMEs and the like. I don't want to hear you coughing and spitting on your ultrawide monitor for 30 minutes only to find out what I need to know is in video 4 of your ongoing paid series.7 -
I am impressed Youtube made this year’s Rewind worse than the last year, it got to the point were people started removing their dislikes from Justin Bieber’s Baby and it went from 10 to 8 million dislikes so that Youtube Rewind 2018 ends up being the most disliked Youtube video in history in just few days with more than 10 millions.. lol7

Skype meeting with bosses be in the middle of the night and I'm drunk as hell.

So my parents were at this meeting were they should watch a video, person one wanted to play the video from his computer but guess what happened:
Person one has windows on his computer. Windows wants to update. Person one clicks on update in three days.
Windows be like 🖕I'll start updating now.
Person two decides to play the video on his computer instead.
He has windows too. It could've worked fine, but a cable is missing or something.
Person three has a MacBook. Person three tries to play the video. It could've worked fine but he doesn't know how to enable subtitles and without them they cannot watch it.
So they ended up watching the video a day later after the computer of person one had updated itself.2 -
"You should record video tutorials of how to do stuff", people say to me.
#1 - I suck on camera. I have a really annoying nasally voice that I just can't stand to hear in my own head, let alone on video.
#2 - I look like every stupid a--hole fat old ugly white guy people love to hate. Nobody wants to see that.
#3 - I suck at remembering what the f$$# I was going to say to begin the video, to show the thing I was going to show, and how to end it without sounding like a complete #@#%@# moron.
#4 - %@%$#@ QuickTime! And any other video screen recording software that NEVER $%#@#$% WORKS for me!! I'll be in the middle of a very complex process I'm demonstrating and BAM! The whole recording crashes. Six takes and six more crashes later and I'm @#%#@# done with trying to do this #@$@#%.

Game Streaming is an absolute waste.
I'm glad to see that quite a lot of people are rightfully skeptical or downright opposed to it. But that didn't stop the major AAA game publishers announcing their own game streaming platforms at E3 this weekend, did it?
I fail to see any unique benefit that can't be solved with traditional hardware (either console or PC)
- Portability? The Nintendo Switch proved that dedicated consoles now have enough power to run great games both at home and on the go.
- Storage? You can get sizable microSD cards for pretty cheap nowadays. So much so that the Switch went back to use flash-based cartridges!
- Library size/price? The problem is even though you're paying a low price for hundreds of games, you don't own them. If any of these companies shut down the platform, all that money you spent is wasted. Plus, this can be solved with backwards compatibility and one-time digital downloads.
- Performance on commodity hardware? This is about the only thing these streaming services have going for it. But unfortunately this only works when you have an Internet connection, so if you have crap Internet or drop off the network, you're screwed. And has it ever occurred to people that maybe playing Doom on your phone is a terrible UX experience and shouldn't be done because it wasn't designed for it?
I just don't get it. Hopefully this whole fad passes soon.19 -

PS: the puzzle is SAWAYAMA WONDERDISC3 -
So I got my first computer with all those games, and as I was exploring those games' files I found those HTML-based help files and FAQs for those games, it looked just like the Internet to me with all the links and what not. Especially that I didn't have Internet access at the time. So I wanted to build "my own Internet". Therefore I started hacking on those files by looking into their source code. And that was the very first time I learn to code. Learning HTML.
The video games on that computer were cool tho :33 -

I am a little bit old fadhioned when it comes to new dev tech stuff. I am at first, not an early adopter ( others should proof it first) and second I like to read books. If there is someone who has understood the matter and has written a book, then I go for it 😁 and third, when I have to use an early technology then the simplest thing is to read the doc to get a grasp what this is all about. Youtube as others describes is lame, because if you are forced to watch 40min when you are just interested in one small thing, you will loose a lot of time finding the relevant piece of content..
Positive on reading is, that you have to think for yourself!1 -
Was watching a video tutorial narrated by a south asian guy(am not racist). Middle of the tutorial, he burped. I rewind the video to confirm if he actually did that. Mofo literally burped.

My boss just added a video about a product in a whatsapp group that has all employees asking everyone to spread it to your personal groups 'to promote it as much as possible'.
Well, fuck this shit their cringy-ass music video makes me want to bleach my eyes. And how does this fucker expects us to spread his cancer in our groups for his profit?

Coding is essentially problem solving with almost immediate feedback. Video games are also problem solving with almost immediate feedback.
That's probably why most Coders love video games. That and the fact that most people love video games anyway. -
a lot of people claim video games cause violence. imo they do.
a lot of the arguments try to prove that because the majority of video game players aren't shooters isn't valid in my opinion, because, in tjis situation, even if 99.99% of gamers with access to a gun don't have a mads shooting, the 0.01% is enough.
add in a loneliness, a bad childhood, mental health issues, and being in a bad place at the time, i think it's possible.
now don't get me wrong - i don't believe video games should be banned or something, i'm just saying i believe it's feasible that video games could be a contributing factor in a mass shooter's choice to do unspeakable actions.
do you guys think i'm being naive or logical ?32 -

I swear I'll snap if someone tells me it's weird that I resize applications to be taller than they are wide. I keep them that way because widescreen monitors came into existence when computers became mainstream and the market shifted to the plebs who only used them to watch videos and wanted to not see any bars on screen, and now we all have to suffer.
Web pages are organized vertically so it makes no sense for me to browse the web in full screen, it wastes space where otherwise all the content is contained and distraction free, most pages strip the side-bars so you'll also see a few less ads. I can also use and organize multiple apps how I want. Small thing too but browsing the web in full screen means pages can find the exact dimensions of your screen and learn more about you (I don't care about this but it's also worth mentioning).
I promise you there are so many good reasons to not use apps in full screen.
Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.17 -
I fucking hate background embed containers, clicked accidentally on some video or stream in some random launcher? good luck finding that specific one that plays it!

WFH is nice, esp when you can spare a separate room for work at your house/apartment. VoIP is also not a problem, it's even better is several ways than the real thing, as you can chat with multiple people at the same time without dragging them off their desks. Even better - screen sharing sessions.
However, there's one thing I don't understand. Why would anyone do video calls? I mean.. why...? What's the point? If I'm on metered network I'll be charged extra only because I'll have to stream out my ugly face to people who don't want to see it and stream in all the other ugly faces I don't want to see. My voice will become laggy, I'll miss out on some details, and all that because of some completely unnecessary overhead.
So why would you want me to enable my webcam? And why do you feel the need to show your face to everyone else? Why is this necessary...?24 -
tldr: Fuck Adobe Premiere
What the flying fuck.
I have a school project together with a friend and decided to do a video. Not only do we now only have one fucking day left, because the teacher decided we dont need time or anything, but I have to learn video editing software, record clips and create the video withing one fucking day.
I've downloaded Premiere because I have a 7 day trial left and had Creative Cloud on my PC and WHAT THE FUCK kind of fucked up bullshit software is this human compiled piece of shit?! I needed to google how to add text and edit it because adding text gives you absolutely nothing, you get no possibility to edit the text in any way, except the content. After googling for 10 minutes because I have the newest version and they changed the text tool, I found out that you need to go to another tab... of which there is 7 and all have such telling names like: "Effects" and "Compose"...
I needed to go to "Effects" BECAUSE WHY THE FUCK NOT, TEXT SURE LOOKS LIKE AN EFFECT TO ME! Then I wanted to align it to the right so its on 50% of the screen. You fucking cant, I've tried and looked for an hour the only possibility you have is to align it to the center or just throw it somewhere. The snapping didn't even work correctly. So I tried to do something else because I was ready to punch a kitten.
A box. A box thats black. A box thats black and thats aligned to the... FUCK YOU, YOU CANT ALIGN THIS BOX.
I cant align a box...
They dont even give me the possibility to...
But I can align the text BOX, not even the FUCKING TEXT itself...
What
The
Fuck
This is the worst program I've EVER had to use. I'm fucking mad and this fucking project can FUCK ITSELF.19 -

Why the fuck open source solutions need to be such a load of bullcrap? I've spent a week trying to set up every single self-hosted video conference software, and the only thing I've got is a shorter lifespan.
How the fuck does your (judging by GitHub, well maintained) software only support Ubuntu 16.04? And I mean ONLY, there's no support for docker, or any other distro either, and we're only weeks from getting the second LTS since 16.04. And why the fuck does documentation tell me to manually go through 20 different config files just to enable SSL?
Why the fuck doesn't your official AWS cloudformation template include VPC or other required parameters? I've had to rewrite the whole thing just to get a valid stack you dipshit!
And how fucking hard is to make your software look decent, I can't expect clients to chat with me using something that looks like an incest child of 2003 MSN and eDonkey?
Oh, and it'd be fucking dandy if your documentation wouldn't return 404, maybe I'd be even able to test what your product has to offer?
I guess after everything I've tried I'll go with Jitsi; it seems the most decent, although it lacks some pretty basic features like limiting chat features for guests.26 -
I've been having a tough time at work recently. I've been struggling with what I have become and what I want to do.
My voice used to carry quite a bit of weight, but as of late I'm no longer being kept in the loop of changes that are happening to my product.
Realizing that I'm slowing being phased out was like a punch to the scrotum. It has made me depressingly aware of the time I have wasted on this company.
All while I was wallowing in my own self-pity, as if on command, Youtube spit this gem out to me. It made me realize that I'm still that bright eyed eager developer just a bit older and a bit wiser. It reminded me of something that I thought I lost, but what I've always had.

so my friend and I are canvassing NLEs for our guys at the Post Production squad in our project (we were in charge in infrastructure). We looked at Premiere since it's kinda ok until we found Black Magic Design's Da Vinci Resolve.
First of all, I was suprised with the price. 299 for the Studio Version? Holy fuck, that's cheap as hell! Then there's a free as in free software version which has the core editing features with 1080p rendering. So we grabbed that and kinda suprised it requires postgres but as seeing Resolve having collab and render queues, it makes sense.
Installed them on the PCs the postprods gonna use, they were amazed. We literally saved 500 bucks for an NLE. When they asked how much is it. Our reply was:
"That's free".
and there was silence...
"And it's also 299 bucks for the cooler version".
And silence still ensued.
Guess our guys wasted alot of money on a pipeline that is cheap as hell but more jam-packed than any other NLE found in the market.
Props to you BlackMagic Design. -

So these dudas hired me to cut and edit videos for them and get to know them (considering to work as web dev after studies, good way to start they said..) sure bit of an extra income..why not..
First clips I get, butthurt ass image quality with low ass sound that not even my grandma with here hi-tech super eardevice could hear a shit..
secondly who the fuck films a company video with a mobile phone in hands.. not even a fucking tripod... The angles are all over the shitfaced scene and your shaking like a fucking dildo vibrates.. "oh fix it with warp, it's easy".
FUUCK YOU! If I tell you these pieces of shit clips aren't even worth posting on Snapchat stories, how the fuck could you even consider using them for companies?!
Every god damn client video has shitty as dildo vibrating Slenderman light quality... Come one! And you want me to consider working for you as a front end developer (where I probably still will have to go through these pills of shit videos)?! Mate.. you better think twice about that...
Ps. Yes I have consulted them regarding these issues and no.. considering that these piles of shit still come my way they haven't taken my advices..(╯°□°)╯︵( .o.)

A command-line animation command.
Input frames and an expression
It will be able to reorder frames, play video/frames/music in the background, smooth transitions, diff and patch frames and render into a video
It will be written in Go. No idea what to call it.
What do you think?8 -
So lately, I've been screen recording when I am working on my projects just for fun. I'm using Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS (Bionic Beaver) and SimpleScreenRecorder for screen recording. I'm using VidCutter for video editing but for some reason, it's giving me some errors and not able to save my edited videos. I don't want to do heavy video editing. I just want something like Windows movie make if some of you remember that.4

Why does my phone (most phones) record video that are like 100s of MB for just a few minutes? Where as I can download the same video and similar quality but much smaller from Youtube after I upload it?
Originally I used Youtube to stabilize videos but seems they removed that... so now I just want the videos with reasonable size.
Not sure if this was from OpenCamera (I think I have it forcing 4K UHD, prolly don't need); I don't know what the setting is in Camera, can't change it.
But smartphone videos are always huge...15 -

My dream is to make video games. Knowing that I learn Java at school, which langage is the most appropriate for you? My teacher, who is a java fan, told me java, of course. On internet I found c or c++, and I even found a JS framework (phaser), but the doc wasn't great.
Do you have advices ?13 -

YouTube... for video creation.
Now I know I was a really amateurist video maker trying to make tutorials and videos about his coding creations in Mugen (you know, CNS state controllers and stuff,...), but this is the kind that's hard to get views from if you don't have a reach long enough to appear in search pages. I've had fun tagging my videos with plenties of tags just so they appear someday as a relevant result. EVEN in search pages for videos in the week, they barely appear and are sunk under videos of your Nth Mugen KOF clone with broken chars, Mugen ryona, Mugen hentai,... Speaking of which, did you know someone got to one of my videos from one of these?! How does YouTube's recommendation system work at this point?!
In the meantime (more like recently), I've been more interested in Ikemen, still kinda Mugen, still a DSL for a game engine, but still fascinating and there's material for tutorial making. But if I ever went back on video making, that won't be on YouTube. I'll just stick on Twitter and Discord if I were to share my content. At least, I got people following me there and a base visibility over there to start with. I could consider forums as well, why not, but YouTube is a no-go for me now.3 -

Has anyone reading this used a Canon Rebel (mine is T3i) for recording Vlog style video? For example, the type of video that video game streamers orYouTubers would make.
Any recommendations on the best lenses for this?3 -
I have often been impressed by Googles natural language tech. Today they have a new functionality in the video conferencing tool meet. You can activate captions. If the audio is reasonable it is quite good, even picking up some words I missed. But it also produces some hilarious fails. Still they do fantastic work on this!1

If what I'm trying to learn is visual, video tutorials are useful. When it comes to programming, it sometimes wastes my time. Watching a 5-minute video to accomplish one simple thing? I could never get that time back! You can spend half of the duration of the video introducing yourself but I am already frustrated. I prefer documentation and hands-on most of the time. Just sharing my thoughts. Thanks.3

What's in your opinion the best way to back up/clone video files from an sd card on to 3 external usb harddisks, simultaneously?

I'm slightly annoyed that the 13" MBP does not have a 16:9 display because when I'm recording a game or a programming tutorial I have to crop or leave black bars... but I guess that's what I get for going with the 13" model.

I'm new to Python and have been using PyCharm. I like it. I've tried just about every IDE on the market now excluding maybe a couple of the ones who don't have free versions and I always end up back to Pycharm.
I like how it's strict about formatting. My opinion it builds good habits. I watch a lot of tutorials on youtube among other things and I'm learning slowly but still I getting there.
My conclusion is that their seems to be a complete lack of consistency in the Python community regarding PEP and formatting standards. One person does it this way. Another does it that way. Makes it extremely frustrating when trying to learn because you have all these people doing things slightly different.
One guy says dont use camelCase another says yes. Granted some of these tutorial are a couple of years old and I know things change but I can't imagine it changes that much from 2 to 3 yeah but when you can't even be consistent with your spacing of your print functions or comments it's like nails on a chalkboard.
And thats just the beginning. I'm a tabs guy some are spaces. That's a whole other rant or whatever. Hardly the point really. Lots of different inconsistencies but I'm running out of characters.
Maybe im just not finding good videos. They all act like they know what they are doing and to an extent I suppose they do.
It takes a lot of guts to put yourself out their like they do ready to be scrutinized so you have to at least have a clue of what your doing. Some of these people have 10s of thousands of subs and I find myself picking apart every little thing they are doing and find many times they are teaching wrong standards. At least that's how I see it from the little experience I have now.
I'm just beyond frustrated and would appreciate any advice that a person wants to give. Keep in my I'm new and may just be misguided so try not to be to harsh if I've drawn an incorrect conclusion.13 -
Hi folks,
I'm currently working on a project where I need to reassemble and play a video from chunks fetched on a server.
The chunks are created from an mp4 video file and with the help of the 'split' command in a terminal.
I can fetch and play the first chunk in a video tag. It displays the total length of the video and stops when the end of the chunk is reached.
But I cannot fetch the second one, somehow append it to the first one and play the newly created chunk.
I tried to concatenate the two chunks using arrayBuffer and Blobs but it didn't work.
Maybe the solution is with SourceBuffer ?
Let's find a way to do that !
Thanks you guys !1 -
Facebook ios app removed video controls when viewing in any list. Stupid. Only way to see the video horizontal control is to double click the video so it will zoom in and no other videos will be shown.

What's the best tool to convert vid to HTML5 (Mp4 + WebM + Ogv) and keep good ratio between Size & Quality ?
I have a 1min lenght vid in FullHD. This is a demo reel that loop in fullscreen at the first website launch.
I tried Miro converter, Freemake and can't reduce files under 15Mb without obtain poor vid quality. It's seems too heavy for a website.
Do you have any tips ? A tool to convert vids, an online service to upload the vid and use it instead of using HTML5 video tag.
Thanks20 -

How often should I worry about keeping an engine, non-enterprise, at arms with the existing frameworks if all I need is an event scheduler and animation possibility?
I have the need for task, animation and secure through the use of executables. Why should my engine be larger than 3mb in code? -
As a new Monday arrives and another work week rears its ugly head, I'd like to impart some encouraging words for once:
Some of you might be working with legacy systems with code that resembles a Jackson Pollock painting.
Some of you have teams of people, both devs and managers, with the tact and intelligence of a lemming.
And almost all of us have something in our professions that we're just not looking forward to.
But take heart, my fellow ranters.
At least you're not stuck doing stuff like this:

Anyone here do animation?
So I'm developing this command-line animation program. It'll obviously only be for quick stuff
I'm thinking of accepting frames and an expression to order, overlay and diff/patch frames.
What kinds of things should I implement? I have done basically no animation ever.

Today I finally finished editing the video for my new song. I have been working on the song itself, recording hundreds of takes of instruments and vocals, for almost four weeks now.
Editing the video took about 3 days, partly because I am using Hitfilm 4 Express for the first time. It's definitely a huge step up from Windows Movie Maker, but I did hit one mindboggling snag which delayed me for more than an hour.
When the editing was done and I exported the finished video, I play it, only to discover that the first second or so of audio is missing. That's kind of important for a music video.
So I try all kinds of things. Reimporting the audio into the project in different resolutions, trying different rendering settings, deleting or adding audio tracks, you name it. And each time the finished video is missing that first second of audio.
And each render takes about 10 minutes to complete, which is a long time to wait for one second of silence!
Out of desperation I start thinking about adding the audio to the video in Windows Movie Maker, just because I know that always works, even if that will degrade the quality.
But before I do that I try one more thing: I add a few seconds of silence at the beginning of the song in Audacity, then import into Hitfilm one more time.
And then it works!
I shall report my findings to Hitfilm shortly :-)4 -
I know the video editing software LightWorks has its aficionados. I can see how it's powerful. I've been using it since at least version 12. But my gosh how it screws people over. In the latest version, when you import files into a project and then want to delete _just the reference_ to the files in the project, LightWorks says "Nope, imma delete the FILE, too!" So you can never just start over with an import. When you import a bunch of still photos in one shot, no matter how many, it imports them all as an unwatchably fast 1 second video sequence instead of as an individual file. Like...what? And they've dumbed down the interface so much that there's no toolbar. You have to right-click poke at everything to try to find where stuff is. And right clicking is NON-EXISTENT on a Mac. I had to use a pen tablet to achieve it. I'm too cheap to buy Adobe Premiere for the few times I have to edit video in a year, so I guess it's just ShotCut on Windows for the rest of my life.2

My company inherited a video conference tool called Video Butler (with Zoom) from our parent. I personally have never used it, seems more a tool that's wired in and only used by execs and parent company, regardless it annoys the shit out of me. You can be in a room and all of a sudden the room switches to video conference mode with no input from those in the room. I have seen video conferences where people are chatting over room speakers to an empty room, or in a really weird situation where 2 empty rooms are connected and sending a video feed to each other. Guess the ghosts needed a conference or something. I get that things happen and managers have a lot of meetings so it's easy to lose track of details, but I genuinely don't get why any system would just connect rooms without allowing the rooms a say. The only security we have to detect it would be that our cameras move for streaming, not that anyone would notice based on past experience.1

Thinking about doing some kind of coding video blog. I would talk a bit and work on several of my projects (Of course not 1:1 time scale). Good for me as I could learn from (more experienced) viewer and they could participate some kind of in this series. I think I would record and then put voice on it when cutting the video. (I don't want the viewer watching me searching for an error caused by a typo for 20 minutes :D) Avg video length: ~5-15 minutes
What do you think? Will this be cool or no viewers?
PS: Sorry for my bad english.
PPS: I hate people who apologize for being bad writing in english.
