    @heyheni Hong Kong, I am doing IGCSE courses currently
  • 3
    @heyheni Just curious, what made you connect this to India?
  • 2
    @F1973 i've read so many horror stories about indian education. And the most common is that the java programming books are from the 90ties.
  • 2
    @heyheni And to keep you in horror, that is true.

    @F1973
    Oh the stories.

    ~8 years ago, some of the Infys we got were straight out of "uni." Two of them in particular didn't know basic computer operation. Like, they couldn't even turn it on. Apparently their entire curriculum in CS, which covered no DSA, claimed to be entirely on paper (the Infy architect's explanation). According to him, they got a degree for effectively transcribing code from photo copied pages.

    Mind you, I don't assume that's actually common practice or true (I try to have a little faith in humanity); I figured they were just degree mill fucks, but had no way to prove that. More likely the too-big-to-hold accountable bodyshop would commit any ethical faux pas to send a larger bill. 🚬

    @SortOfTested 8 years ago?

    We still have idiots out of IIT and top tier colleges don't know how to turn on a computer and they dream to work on AI/ML.

    @F1973
    IIT I could at least understand. If you have money, the bar gets lower.

    But yeah, faith in humanity. 😋 Just waiting for the government there to realize all the have to do to render any all degrees official is make the websites Hindi only. HR depts here won't even try, they'll just rubber stamp it. Sure modi will get around to it after he's done with Id cards and government documents.

    @SortOfTested I don't think money works for IIT.

    And I never knew someone would be so much aware about shitty Indian politics.

    Yeah, Hindi and a picture of cow in the logo and perfect recipe for top tier brand.

    Dunno why, but, mine is cringe as well.

    Finding someone decent to teach computer science at a decent level is tricky and expensive.

    The other two, not so much.

    @F1973 Another story for the c developers .It is a year or two old.
    Part 1
    I was staying for a few days in a small village of my mother's grandparents. I joined a programming class beacuse I had nothing better to do and I had pretty good experience with robotics classes in my home town

    So they told me learn c again so I could get back to my home town for studies again even though I had kinda completed cs50 which taught c . The first day they taught me with turbo c compiler which did not even support mouse and you had to write clrscr so that your program's output windows was not filled with the last program's output windows.I had bought my laptop so I demonstrated them atom but they told I should not use ides because turbo c was optimized for coding. They raised another valid point that I would forget syntax since the ide was helping me. So I used nano to write the program and used gcc to compile which the teacher told was a ripoff and I should not use it

    Part 2
    At the end of the first day told my mother that they had to teach me a lot of things. When I completed the class after a few days they had only taught me the basics and two functions in the stdio.h library. While in the free cs50 course they taught a lot more though it was not one to one. I do not remember the exact amount my parents paid but it was a few thousand rupees as I had to complete the course in far less time than it was supposed to be completed and came two times a day so they charged extra . I didnt get a certificate because I didnt have enough time to give the test for the certificate

    @AkshayTolwani how do indians accept that? Don't you get angry at those schools? Are there cases where the authories close those scaming schools? How do you cope with the fact that you pay money and know that by the time you finish it you're still unable to get and do a good job?

    @heyheni people are used to the fact that being jobless is pretty normal. And folks here don't have any aspirations. At least the vast majority.

    They are born. They get married. They have kids. They die. That's it.

    Absolutely no sense towards society or progress of human race at large.

    Those who fly out for better education, you might think are good, but most do it for pure selfish reasons or to compete for status quo.

    And one can get away with anything if they have cash. Being loaded is more important than being educated.

    Are you aware of the casteism concept? We still have that. We still have reservations in all sectors, not just education. Here's how it works.

    If you belong to certain category you have low barriers in life irrespective of everything else. Ideally this should be applied for financially weaker category.

    Now I had a guy in my college who belonged to one and he paid just 1K as his yearly tution fee and he was fucking loaded. (1/2)

    @heyheni (2/2)

    I belong to a relatively lower middle or middle class household but a general category. I used to pay 100K as yearly tution fee.

    One day this motherfucker tells me why ain't I wearing expensive clothes or using an iPhone. I was like because half of your fees is being recovered from mine (yes the burden is shifted to others) so how the fuck am I suppose to live a luxurious life.

    So technically you can be a retard from a backward category and easily become a doctor with your score as 1/100 and I can be a genius with score as 99/100 but cannot get admission because I belong to an open category.

    So a doctor operating me tomorrow might know shit about stuff but is a doctor and treating people only because he has a degree which he didn't get on merit.

    So yeah this is how this country functions. We were better ruled by Brits.

    Simon please comeback.

    @F1973 the doctor operating you tomorrow might be selling your kidney too 😆😢

    @heyheni I wouldn't be surprised if this happened. Rather it happens more than reported.

    @heyheni Firstly Indians recieved cheap fast 4g mobile internet only in the last few years. Before that internet was kinda a luxury . So people do not know that they are being scammed. I mentioned that it was not a school but a class.
