Windows servers are a joke. A bad joke.

I feel sorry for people who have to work on them and have that as their profession you never used Linux

If someone came up to me and said we should use a windows server for this I'd laugh in his face and fire him. Seriously. I would.

That's how much I hate them. Got it? Ok good ... I'm calm now 😎

I agree way too much. I was once about to apply for a job at a company and was reading their requirements and that kind of stuff. Then I was rereading the part that has a detailed description of the company when I found that they use a Windows server. I immediately closed the tab and deleted from my history.

Even Azure is powered by Linux
  • 5
Maybe I'm just lucky. But we have had multiple Windows servers up for a year without incident. I don't disagree that Linux is inherently more stable. I have just never run into an issue.
  • 1
We use windows servers for some stuff and I don't hate it but I prefer the Linux boxes
  • 1
@grimtar either luck or good management of the server . But stability isnt my main issue

Just personally when I've dealt with windows server people they don't know about their own servers and are lazy uninterested. (Not saying it's you)

They quickly fall out of touch ... Every web Dev I meet who uses with does servers and .net builds mediocre or bad websites I've never gone ooo that's nice and it's built on a windows server they are like the IE of developers

And most don't update important security flaws cause they don't want to rock the boat.
  • 1
@FitzSuperUser We are a relatively small shop. And are responsible for maintaining everything ourselves (developers). I will admit I don't know a ton as not often does something go wrong I have to learn how to fix.

I'm not entirely sure what the fact they use Windows servers has to do with quality. You can build an amazing app in winforms and complete garbage in the the newest hot language. I see more of a trend in attitude in relation to quality than i do stack and quality
  • 0
@grimtar I think Linux lends itself to quality. You need to know how your web server works because you set it up yourself.

I'm not saying it's impossible for a developer to be bad who use Linux servers (hell they can be really shit)

But I see far more advanced stuff come from Linux based people.

Visit chrome experiments site and gsap animation site

If you were to ask them ... What server would you use. I bet none would say "windows"
  • 2
    @drRoss you'll enjoy this one
  • 0
@brukernavn32 you just threw another guy into the ring 😂😂😂😂😂😂
  • 3
@FitzSuperUser My point is that I have never seen a correlation between server choice or stack and code quality. I am not talking visual. You're also ignoring the fact that the developer of The website may have nothing to do with the server. At 3/4 of my last jobs the developer of the website had nothing to do with the server beyond telling the server team if it needed any special settings.
  • 2
@grimtar oh ... I have, effectively I'm saying .net developers build ... Acceptable websites ... But not amazing ones...

True often they don't deal directly with the server ... But my point wasn't entirely that...

I mean I reckon ... Someone who runs windows servers should know if theres an important update... Often I find they don't
  • 0
Up 5 weeks straight on my 2008, update required a reboot.
  • 0
Don't SO make use of windows servers ? Not to say I am particularly fond of windows servers though
  • 0
  • 3
UUURRRRRGGHHHHH YOU'VE AWAKENED THE BEAST! For what it's worth, I (with others) look after Windows servers that haven't been rebooted in a very long time. Yes, admittedly the Linux servers don't require reboots after updates, but that's just the way is. I enjoy administering Windows Servers more to be honest.
  • 1
    @drRoss 😂😂😂 here he is ,
To be fair I like managing windows servers to... Because they are a challenge 😉 because I haven't done it enough.

I'm sure your good at what you do. But personally I don't get why windows server guys don't use... Linux unless they just started in that trained in it and it's all they know.

Can get paid more 🤔 cause there are fewer of you.
  • 2
We got a new Unix admin at last job after his career of only managing windows servers... For about the first month he would reboot the servers ever Saturday until we told him it wasn't necessary... 🤔
Before that the dev server had an uptime of 3+ years.
  • 0
@pxgamer if you haven't rebooted for 3, years ... Your way behind on updates 😂
  • 0
@pxgamer still though there comes a point it can only update to a certain level ... Has to restart before it can do the next set of updates!
  • 7
Oh look, .Net developers are now monkeys compared to the gods of Linux.

They chose windows, therefore they must be shit.

Their server has to restart every now and then, imbeciles, if only they chose Linux for hosting. Nothing ever goes wrong on Linux.

    Oh look, IIS, peasants.

Anyone with a windows development background, you are bad at code, you will never produce anything that will satisfy the Linux elite.

In fact all .Net developers should just quit.

Why the fuck are you even trying? I mean, if only you used Linux, then automatically you would gain the leet skills needed to join the "Best developers club".

Oh look, the poor guy is running windows, shame what an asshat.

Yeah he must be so bad at code, probably just smashing his keyboard until something compiles.

Yeah, I heard that is what .Net is all about.

Were so lucky we use Linux, that way we can install our shitty plugins, into out shitty themes, into our shitty wordpress site, and be sure it wont reboot.

    Fuck off
  • 0
@jacojvvdev I don't think that people that choose windows are dumb or anything. They might just like pain that's all.
  • 2
@brukernavn32 oh no, that's where you are wrong. We cant write anything decent. In fact we are so terrible that we cant produce anything a linux guy can.

Our operating systems and servers are so terrible, they prohibit us from writing any good code.

I know this one .Net guy, he was writing good code and then windows gave him an error that said "your code is too good, unfortunately writing good code as a .Net developer is not supported at the moment".

Then it subsequently crashed and rebooted.

    True. Fucking. Story.
  • 0
    @jacojvvdev 😂😂😂

But windows isn't a poor man's Linux... You pay for windows

    So technically other way around?

You are exaggerating my points but yeah I do believe that. Why? I've yet to see someone in .net build a site as complex and interesting as the high end php guys WordPress etc

And I can build a site in .net I choose not to. Hell my first language was c#

Now if you can prove me otherwise go right ahead.

But I bet you the best windows guys can't beat the top Linux guys. I'll take that bet anytime (till I stop saying it)

I consider myself pretty good... Challenge me 😉 I'm willing to prove myself and what I believe.
  • 1
@jacojvvdev man you can't even see obvious trolling like this? Cmon calm down. Most people in this thread have probably never even used a Windows server.

I'd personally never touch that thing with a 10 foot pole but if someone else loves it then by all means go for it
  • 2
@FitzSuperUser sorry but WordPress has to be one of the worst fucking pieces of software every conceived by man. Yes there's a lot of acceptable php stuff out there but WordPress sites are not one of them. Fuck the mess that is wordpress. I hate .NET but I'd take that any day over WP
  • 1
@brukernavn32 Im returning the obvious statements 😉
  • 0
@brukernavn32 I'm not entirely trolling... I mean he ... Takes my points makes them 20 times worse but to a point they aren't entirely wrong.

Like I don't believe .net people are the scum of the earth I believe they have a different skill set I do also believe most of them have pigeon holed themselves into a .net environment.

They can produce good work and it can be better then Linux people work I just think if you had the best ... Of both Linux stuff cab out perform and be better quality . Then windows
  • 0
@brukernavn32 😂 ok if you believe that sure. When I build a WordPress site ... It's modded to remove the crap out put in and is streamlined for simplicity for the user. And I'm heavy on security. Seriously try n hack one of my sites i dare you. Granted 2008 it had a bad rep but if you know what your doing its great. Much better then most other cms options

Compared to drupal it's ... Straight forward.

Now to be far you will get better results with your own setup but it's a good mid level setup for people who don't have 10k+
  • 4
@FitzSuperUser I want you to consider something.

If someone is a .Net developer. But also uses linux and open source.

Is he a shit developer, because he is using .Net or is he suddenly part of your elite club of leet coders because of linux?

And honestly, I don't care how good you think you are, in all honesty, you could build your own kernel from scratch, it does not relate to my argument.

Im saying you cannot imply that .Net developers are shitheads, just because they use .Net.

Is your website prettier than theirs? Well done, you may have a better designer than they had.

In the future take your elitism and shove it right up your ass, because what you may believe to be real, might not be.
  • 5
I don't even care I'm just really entertained right now by the shitshow that is this rant ⛄
  • 0
@jacojvvdev 😂 your taking what I'm saying and going extreme

I'm not saying .net devs are just straight out shit.

I'm saying ... What .net can accomplish and what alternatives can accomplish is different.

And I'm not talking design... I'm talking code

Thou yes I do find most .net guys I deal with don't have enough knowledge on html5 or css3 or great JavaScript libraries. Like the IE of developers 😉

I'm saying I can prove it? What the harm in that I'm not trying to be elitist I'm being straight with you. I'm allowed my opinions your allowed yours.

Your very defensive but not willing to submit yourself for review ?
  • 2
    @FitzSuperUser

You must be joking.. right? I mean we all know this site have a lot of linux lovers that also love to hate everything from Microsoft, but at least it stop there.

Both linux and microsoft have good and bad people, you can't just assume people are better because they pick a specific tech.
  • 0
@Meei I don't assume they do. But everyone I have met who builds .net sites are worse. And are building sites like it's 2011.

Now I'm open to finding one who's not. And I'm not saying I go into a conversation with that thought. But experience teaches me that.

Also let's say I go searching for the latest news on the best website examples and best coding practises etc . They are built in php from people who prefer Linux servers. Google might direct me ok that based on previous searches. But I never seen a c# example of the latest in websites
  • 1
@FitzSuperUser stack overflow, all Microsoft websites,....
  • 0
  • 1
@FitzSuperUser all of those websites are built with .NET and are solid experiences. Again personally I would never use that to build a website but judging peoples skills just because they don't choose your stack is dumb
  • 0
@brukernavn32 no are you saying all stack overflow you see is windows sites? Or that stack overflow is
  • 2
@FitzSuperUser stack overflow and all other sites that are run by stack overflow are built on .NET and run on IIS
  • 0
@brukernavn32 great that's 1 in millions I never said all. And yes your right it is solid but it isn't html5? Nor do they do any new web standard stuff... I.e animations etc little css3 if any

So all you've done really is ... Back up my point more? 2011-2012 standard of coding.
  • 0
@brukernavn32 to back up my point more... Their blog... Is html5 (partly) but is on Linux
  • 1
@FitzSuperUser tbh i've looked into WordPress and drupal 7 codebase and I didnt like it... Drupal 8 seems promising though since it seems to have a proper OO implementation with a dependency injection and some symfony components. Though, at my job I've developed a proprietary modular CMS.

I agree Linux is easier to work with btw, but if you're a Windows guy and you know how to handle those things, good on you because they give me a hard time!:p
  • 2
The argument that will never end...
  • 0
@drRoss to true 😂, I'm happy to continue thou
  • 2
  • 2
    @FitzSuperUser

again, so you find stackoverflow is shitty AF and dont use it?
  • 0
@mak420 why is everyone going overboard on what I mean... I'm saying... Comparable i haven't found as high end stuff on windows .net compared to Linux people's work

Stack overflow is fine. But technically as it stands it's not html5 so no is not the best it could be! Obviously gets used alot so isn't hit badly on searches because of it. I'm not saying it's bad it is acceptable just not great.

Im not saying .net people will build shit websites... I'm saying that from my experience. They don't push the boundaries and create the most up to date advanced stuff , but I find Linux guys at least try to.

In most circumstances I find they are building older style websites ... 2011 version of code ... It's outdated! That's bad...

As I said I'm happy to compare and windows .net sites to my own ... As proof
  • 2
@FitzSuperUser dearest ass hat comparing .net developers to the IE of developers while using an overbloated slow framework which is arguably the IE of php of frameworks.

But I respect your viewpoints that have formulated from the whole two minutes of your "development" career.

Ps. Find attached your previous rant about how Linux is shitty.

Pss. When Fitz has a problem with everything maybe Fitz is the problem...
  • 1
Are you in all seriousness debating the quality of developers by what platform their product runs on?
  • 0
@afflict that's Linux desktop. Not Linux servers... They are entirely different things I mean you would never question a windows server service based on windows 10 desktop experience so why are you judging me for saying there isn't a good Linux desktop, that suits user needs today? I.e Photoshop etc

Now I assume your calling WordPress shitty and bloated ...

I have mentioned this but I will again. When I deal with WordPress it's not . I use custom theme made from scratch I mod it to remove crap it doesn't need I.e jquery etc. So they are streamlined and fast . I also secure it.

To be clear. Go fucking right ahead and try to hack a site of mine. Good luck. I'll also argue my code and how it's built.

I have no issue showing my work to you guys and confirming.

Any .net developers happy for me to review your work?,

I'm happy enough to be wrong. Just send it my way. Once again your having a go with no... Real facts and going overboard on what I'm saying.
  • 3
Yeah I'm sure everyone is lining up to have a 20-year-old cunt nugget to review their work.

On a second note no one gives two fucks about your 2 user WordPress site.

My team builds scalable cross-platform solutions for corporate clients, and normally we don't have two seconds to waste on something this stupid but its our day off, and you just happened to be here.

So while your begging your next client to pay you, we will be enjoying our large profits and trolling the shit out of you.

Merry xmas, you are such a great gift.
  • 0
@FitzSuperUser I still think it's funny that someone (you) that's building WP themes of all things, is shitting on an enterprise software stack like asp.

I've met enough .NET developers that are passionate about the web and are attending our local Javascript and Angular meetups.

Also you shitting in the Linux desktop is pointless. Don't like it, don't use it. I love my Linux desktop and am way more productive than on OsX or Windows.

Bottom line is: Stop shitting on technology just because you don't like it. If you do that in the real world then dear God your poor colleagues.
  • 0
@afflict wow your just a cunt, good luck. On your next project.

PS I may be 20 but I'm still a better dev then you 😘

@brukernavn32 I'm not shitting on them . Im Asking you guys if you see something that proves me wrong send it my way because I haven't truthfully seen it. I'm asking for opinions as I have mine in its current state

Instead of being constructive you guys are the ones that decided to make it a shit parade , before this comment ? Did I personally attack either of you, you guys attacked me I ignored it ? Did I not constantly suggest you show me people Work who can prove me wrong?

All you done is confirm it for me. Because you haven't sent anything my way that proves me otherwise.

Your having ago at me because im working with pissy windows devs who don't know shit and are building shit websites that I'm having to rebuild.

From my perspective your the ones being the difficult
  • 2
@FitzSuperUser oh man I never thought of it like that, let's apply your logic to architecture and break down all the old buildings like fuck it there's a new way of building things.

Let's stop talking English, Mandarin is the way to go.

Let's reboot science we all know crystals and good feelings are the new standards and there is no place for actual science.

Listen here mate, you are new to the development game, and you clearly feel the need to prove yourself. Calm down, think about what you say before you say it. You are the worst kind of developer, you can't completely rewrite a whole project every time someone releases a new fucking framework or new coding standard.

What does stack overflow require HTML5 for? And while it's down being re-coded, where the fuck are you going to get your code from?

I would love to hear your amazing suggestions.
  • 2
@FitzSuperUser you personally insulted every developer on the planet. Your rant history shows little respect for anyone and you even make bets in the naming of your first born son, which you lost. So you are clearly not as right as you think you are...

I love this shit parade, and being called a cunt is the greatest compliment you could have given me because it's a pretty safe bet that you call everyone smarter than yourself that.

Just remember when your only tool is a hammer all you see is nails... You will never actually give your clients the best solution for their money/needs you will just keep shoving them into WP. But then again the only jobs you probably get are setting up blogs so I guess it doesn't really matter.
  • 2
@FitzSuperUser Look, I don't have the time nor the patience to have a cock comparing competition here.

I have real work to do, I don't just install a theme, two plugins and then qoute people.

And I see you are still missing the point. You have insulted many people by claiming that .NET developers are shit.
Which I will keep on insisting is a false statement.

If I were to put a junior in front of linux, would that also now make him superior?
Well maybe it would, because he can install a theme and a plugin and then call himself a motherfucking developer.

I am glad I don't work for your 'company'. You seem like a real fucking knob.

Firing people for wanting to use a certain stack. You must be such a great boss.
  • 0
@jacojvvdev ok so again going bit far .. but of course I'd have to fire someone who wanted to build .net stuff

I don't work with it in my company he couldn't fit in the company nor do I want to go in that direction ? So?

If someone doesnt fit in a business they should be fired. Or move on.

    That's how business works

At no point did I say .net devs were shit. I said I haven't found a good one prove me wrong as all the .net sites I've seen and have had to deal with they are...
Mediocre they don't involve new standards and are coded like it's 2011 2012

    So?
  • 0
@afflict a bet I made with a friend as a banter is hardly an issue it was a bit if fun whilst drunk.

Mate you comment on all my shit saying shitty things... It's funny bit of a waste of your time.

But your a classic bully 😂 so that's cool you clearly think your the shit.

At least I back mine up with evidence and facts. You just spew what cones to mind .

I have never just bought or downloaded a theme added a few plugins and sent it to a client.

As I said I build it from scratch

If you want to make up lies go ahead it will not end well for you thou.

    Good luck to you
  • 1
@FitzSuperUser I think your assessment of quality is just plain wrong. Quality is not expressed in flashy html5 animations most of the time.

Literally everybody can build that. Building scalable high quality enterprise grade systems is a much more challenging and that's where systems like .NET and JavaEE shine
  • 0
@brukernavn32 building html5 compliant websites is were the web should be and devs should really only be building html5 sites. its heading in that direction animations is just an extension to have higher retention rates also functionality plays a big role.

Most sites currently are all the same, bog standard here is some information. Which can work if you just want a site, but if you got a product that gets customers involved surely a more user friendly experience is preferred ? To locks of text and static images

I'm not saying these scalable systems don't have their place but if no one is using it. What's the point.

If your identical to every other thing out there why choose your application ..

If I built stack overflow right now basically identical.. why use that instead of stack overflow unless it has features and is ... More user friendly like having codepen inside the posts maybe as an example.
  • 3
@FitzSuperUser so you want evidence and facts?

Fact: you have never built a scalable enterprise solution.

Fact: you are not capable of doing that.

Fact: you are unemployable and hot headed.

Fact: things that "cone" to mind causes brain freeze.

Fact a 20 year old doesn't know the difference between his head and his ass.

Fact your dad hugged too much.

Fact: you think everybody on the train is a bully, and make you feel uncomfortable.

Fact: you have produced no evidence of your capabilities.

Evidence of your head up your ass: This rant.
